Insomnia
Ok guys, I know I'm new to SMD but I do plan on staying active. Car audio seems like a hobby I would like to get in to. Anyways, I have a few questions! Currently, I have two 12" CVX kickers (http://www.kicker.com/comp_vx) in a ported box, as well as a 2000 watt amp by Boss (http://www.amazon.co...r/dp/B001DXDA64) I know this sounds silly, but will the amp even be able to power the two subs? I bought the two kickers at a pawn shop, and I don't know the Ohm ratings for them. Second, the amp I have now apparently has some mixed reviews; some saying that it can overheat VERY easy. Should I just get a new amp? Third, I'm a bit too short on money to buy a new head unit and radio so I planned on buying a Line out coverter for now instead. What are your guy's opinions on LOC's? Yay, nay? And lastly, my car (2004 mazda 6) already has a stock amp. I'm assuming when hooking up subs this can be worked around fairly easy, no? Thanks you so much guys! Any help is appreciated! BassHead1990
I would for sure get another amp that would provide cleaner power with less distortion. Those Kickers can sound really good with the right amp. Also it helps to know the cu ft of the box, a well built box will make a huge different, providing the sound your looking for. a PREfab box from best buy isnt going to justify them woofers I would save and buy a head unit, personally I think it's less trouble and better RCA signals i say, just leave the stock amp Edited July 11, 2012 by BassHead1990 Quote (2007 Chevy Tahoe LT) Mechman 320A OEM AGM D'Amore Engineering HLC-2 Sig Converter D'Amore Engineering E1500.1 Fi Audio Neo 3.5 12"

Could you maybe point towards an amp that would go well with them? I'm obviously quite clueless. Also, this might sound completely idiotic, but ye know I'm just trying to learn a bit here. What if I bridged the amp I currently have to just one sub, and then got another amp exactly the same, and bridged that amp to the other one? Like, one amp for each subwoofer? Is that even possible for me currently? Thanks again. Edited July 11, 2012 by Insomnia

b-dubs89
x2 plan on replacing the boss amp , even if you can it to bump or sound ok it won't last . the cheap models of pioneer head units are not bad at all for the money , from the last couple years . another thought for you is when you go shoping for a head unit crutchfield will give you the mounting kit and wire adapter if you purchase a deck for $130 or more . Step one.... find out the ohms of your subs. I don't know how I would do that. The subwoofers are already in the box. poorfish88
Pull em out. You can't pick the right amp without knowing, or check em with a ohm meter. Edited July 11, 2012 by poorfish88
Wildbillpb
You can read what the coils are wired to without taking them out of the box. Get a digital multipmeter and hook it up to the terminals on the box. It wont be as accurate but it will tell you if they are D2 or D4 depending on final load. Insomnia
Pull em out. You can't pick the right amp without knowing, or check em with a ohm meter. Allright, thanks. I should probably just go to a car audio shop and talk to the shop personally and see what would be best to do. You can read what the coils are wired to without taking them out of the box. I'll still probably just end up going to a shop. It would be best for me in order to get everything sorted out.
