wcefai
I've always been confused as to what contributes more toward overall loudness. I do know that increasing power makes a system louder and increasing cone area to push air makes a system louder also. But what contributes more to loudness? For example, to add on to a system of two 12s on 2k watts: Would two 12" subs on 4k watts be louder than four 12" subs on 2k watts?
pa-pa-platypus
there is no cut and dry answer to this.. more cone area makes it easier to get louder..and so does power..but what they will do can be very application dependent Quote This isn't teeball. YOU DO NOT GET A TROPHY JUST BECAUSE YOU SHOW UP. Put the work in and then maybe get the respect when it has been earned 151.6 with single 12 at 41 hz 153.2 with 2 12's at 43 hz power: dd m4
bassface
In my opinion I bet it would be equal loudness, but im guessing 4 would sound cleaner also if everything was hooked up perfect. Bump4life
cone area is KING!!! ahah youll never know till you try. it would be a tough call. would you be underpowering the 4 subs versus powering the 2 subs right? if the sub doesnt reach high efficiency and displace a lot of air then youd most likely be louder with 2 on proper power opposed to underpowering 4 while you watch them bump there without any excursion Quote Buyer/Seller Feedback Thread: http://www.stevemead...5015-bump4life/ MB C220 153 Trunk Car Build Log: http://www.stevemead...d/#entry1840136 MB C280 Ipad Dash SQ Build Log: http://www.stevemeadedesigns.com/board/topic/194484-bump4lifes-new-benz-tony-c-relay-kit-pictures-ce-electric-audison-front-stage-installed/ My SPL Log: http://www.stevemead...__fromsearch__1 BMW M340 xDrive Stock, for now. wcefai
This is all hypothetical because I've always wondered. And the subs would be matched to the amp so they would be getting rated rms
aerickson
For loudness u want a combo of both I think. Plus the enclosure is a big part. People get loud with 1300 watts or w/e and get hit a 140 give or take. Edited August 2, 2012 by aerickson

wcefai
Yeah, we'll this is all dreaming until I get the resources for everything. Until then I'll just chill with my two 12" kicker CVRs >.<
jlmtx2002
I've been wondering the same thing. Hypothetically 1 15 rated at 1000w vs 2 12s rated 500w a piece. Given each is in proper enclosure and both powered by same amp at same ohm load. Which do you choose???????
aerickson
12. More cone area.
