To EQ, or not to EQ, that is the question

Recommended Posts

What does adding an EQ really do (i only have a sub amp for now and my head unit has 5 volt pre-outs) should i get an eq? and what does an eq actually do? Sorry, never had any kind of experience with one

What the f**k is an appropriate signature supposed to look like?

I run eqs in all my vehicles. Only if you run a amp for your highs though. You have adjustments in the head unit but an eq gives you more adjustment. My favorite eq is the old sony xe90 if.you can find one. Other wise ill run clarions. I suggest getting one

EQing is for correction of frequencies for rooms or different car environment, so when you have certain peaks or drips due to the shape of the car, correctly done, an eq can correct that for flatter response, which is what you're looking for.

The best eq I've seen so far is the Audison Bit-One(not cheap), where it has a mic and you play pink noise(20-20000hz flat noise), and eq through a computer to get the flatest frequency response possible .

the way i like to use a eq is cut frequencies and never boost .i don't like using eq's very much alot of times cutting or boosting 1 frequency creates a new problem frequency . my favorite eq i have used was in a vintage toshiba stereo receiver it was a 2 band parametric eq , sort of like alpine's 2 band eq's , but worked a lot better .

I'm about to put a mids and high amp in tomorrow and i have a sub amp, but i think what i have now sounds just fine for my intents and purposes, would an EQ make an audible difference?
