purplehaiz Posted August 22, 2012 Report Posted August 22, 2012 Just replaced my stock alternator with a mechman rhino 250. I'm idling at 12.6 volts. Is something not hooked up right or do the 4 batteries just need recharged that much? Because when I have it completely up it doesn't cut out
Casket Posted August 22, 2012 Report Posted August 22, 2012 Your PCM regulates voltage but you should not be that low, should be at least 13.8 . When i first installed my 300amp singer i was idling around 13.7 and would drop down to 12.6 with a decent load. Installed my bypass regulator and it sits steady at 14.8. Full load it does not drop past 14.3. Im sure somebody more knowledgeable will chime in. But with my small amount of knowledge and not knowing what equipment you have, i would guess your PCM is dropping the voltage EDIT: i would also check all of your connections, B+ and grounds etc for corrosion... dohckiller808 Posted August 22, 2012 Report Posted August 22, 2012 what kind of car? my sequoia sucked balls at idle. mechman says the crank is small on a sequoia.
tdsa23 Posted August 22, 2012 Report Posted August 22, 2012 Same problem that I have a lot of foreign cars idle to low and have a small crank Call mechman up and let them know to see if there is anything they can do to help. purplehaiz Posted August 22, 2012 Author Report Posted August 22, 2012 It's a 91 Mazda Navajo. I did have a 300 amp fuse on it but a wire was loose causing arcing and melting. So it's wired straight. Is the lack of fuse the problem? I'm running 2 dc level 4 XL 15s with an ma audio 4000 watt amp. 4 batteries. Could it just be the batteries are so dead and the alt has to charge them?
dohckiller808 Posted August 23, 2012 Report Posted August 23, 2012 how is the voltage if you rev it up to 1k?
Ambassador of Bass Posted August 24, 2012 Report Posted August 24, 2012 You really don't need a fuse between the alt and the battery from my experience. I would guess it's low because the batt's are charging do you have any battery isolators installed btw?
