RobertR Posted September 4, 2012 Author Report Posted September 4, 2012 Thank you for all the responses. The sa-12s are going in an H3 with an saz-2500d in about three months. Room shouldnt be an issue. The cvx's are in a bmw 325i with a terribly small trunk. A 32 inch wide box will be rubbing againt the wheel wells. 16 inches high puts the box a half inch from the top of the trunk. The trunk is fairly long but due to the shape of the opening of the trunk it makes any box a real pain to put in. As for the power issue I was planning on picking another Hifonics brutus 1200.1 but Im having second thoughts about trying to match two amps. More then likely I will pick up a single larger amp to push the cvx's. Im not really wanting to throw a large amount of money at this set up because after three months it wont be used all that much. Strangeduck thanks for pointing out the numbers. sub displacement should have been .16 not .6. The cvx actually has a pretty small motor. I think I can extend the box out to 20 inches of length wich will give me close to 4 cubic feet net volume and if I make the port 17 inches long my tuning is around 35. Am I correct in thinking that the port walls have to be the same distance from the box wall as it is wide? 412 cvx thank you too for your input. Its nice to be able to pick the brain of somebody with experience with the exact subs Im using. I will check out the build you did right after this post. Jessica Posted September 4, 2012 Report Posted September 4, 2012 If your port is in the center of the box then split to two ports at the back of the box then the two sides have to be half the width. That is a 2 common wall box. If you just run it down one side then across the back as one single port then it stays the same width but it's a 3 common wall box. The later can help if you are limited on space as it removes a 3/4 port wall from your net area. You can also go aero ports but then you may run into length issues as they tend to be rather long to get the tuning you need. There is a ton on info on the forums about this that i have read since joining but i only know the basics. CVX will be a much better help for the finer points of box design. Dillan Turvold Posted September 4, 2012 Report Posted September 4, 2012 My uncle has some 12" cvr's and I put them in a few different boxes for him.. they definitely seem to like bigger boxes.. I think kicker just designs their products that way. They're not bad sounding at all. PS: If it's possible and you want to go through the hassle maybe build the box inside the trunk since you said fitting it in would be hard?
412 CVX Posted September 4, 2012 Report Posted September 4, 2012 If you plan on doubling the power, try to get 50-55 sq inches of port. Just say no to Ground Pounder Customs. RobertR Posted September 5, 2012 Author Report Posted September 5, 2012 412 cvx it will be a 4 or 5 months before I buy another amp for the cvx's. Should I go ahead and shoot for 55 sq inch of port now or should I wait? strangeduck Im sorry to say you kinda lost me with your last post. I tend to process things better visually so if you happen to know of a pic of the design your talking about could you direct me to it? Thank you all for your patience with me. I really am a noob wwhen it comes to box design. My seats do not fold down however there is an opening between my rear seats and I would like to have my port firing right at it. this is the design I was planning on building. http://img94.imagesh...ddleportbox.jpg BMW 325i Kenwood KVT-647DVD re xxx components re 6.5 FR's 2 RE XXX 12's 2 US amps MD3D's 2 batcap 4k's
RobertR Posted September 5, 2012 Author Report Posted September 5, 2012 My first attempt at a CAD design. I used my torres specs. I would like to add (for your amusement) that my mouse pad on my laptop is crap and my left mouse button only works half of the time. This drove me to drink. 412 CVX Posted September 6, 2012 Report Posted September 6, 2012 I used to do designs on my laptop pad haha. but the left mouse button only working half the time? Jessica Posted September 6, 2012 Report Posted September 6, 2012 What you posted is a 2 common wall box, just remember to halve the width after it splits into two ports. And some people recommend putting a triangle or something on the back wall in the center of the port to help keep port width even and stuff. I don't know how much that will matter, the air is going to move back and forth in the port regardless. Rest in peace, walled 87 accord build log 03' Corolla build with AA Mayhem inside.
