john253a
Could aslo do 24" inside 36" with a hinge on each side and have 2x 6" storage areas
Daniel Shepard
Ok I did some sketching in CAD. You can do the subs up center port up with angled top. If you use your heights of 14 and 15.5, the box would be 24" wide. If you rather use your full 36" width, the box height would be 9.25" and 10.75". Since you want the top flush with your interior you could put the box on 'legs'... and create a 4.75" tall cubby space underneath for amps, x-overs, etc.. The above is 1.2 cu ft net using 3/4" wood - single baffle 1.813" x 9.75" port x 30" long gives you 34 hz Note: you mentioned subs inverted so I figured the added volume of 2 - 8" cutouts @ 3/4" thick. I did not figure any volume for the inverted cone of the woofer. Note: when the port makes the turn it is only .906" (29/32") x 9.75......kinda skinny @ 10.75:1 ratio I did not figure any bracing. I don't recommend volumes, port sizes, etc - but you wanted .6 per woofer and 33-34 hz. Port area came out to 14.73 per cube. Any less makes the port even skinnier. Hope this helps. You have 2 different box widths & heights to choose from. If you want something changed let me know. I totally feel ya on the symmetry! It's a curse... Can you draw this up on torres for me or another program so I can see? I have to use the heights of 9.25 and 10.75 if thats the case. Also on the port, should I go a big bigger oppening so they dont get "choked" or should that be fine? was this figured on leaving the front (part facing the rear seat) square as in my last drawing? ear2ear
You'll need other opinions on port area - I won't pretend to know. I can draw you the box though. When I was entering the info into Torres and then checking it, it was off. Maybe it doesn't handle 2 turns in the port. So I modeled the internal volume in Inventor. I can get it into AutoCAD though & show you a drawing. ear2ear
Here are a couple views. Getting a JPG out of ACAD makes for crappy quality, so I appologize. You could simply add feet to the shorter box, or build it right into the box with taller front/back/sides. I can email you better drawings as PDFs if you decide you want them. Daniel Shepard
Thanks a ton man! I may get to building this weekend. I like the design, Ill go with the port size you stated, thank you for going above and beyond!
ear2ear
You're welcome - it's fun for me. If you pick one or the other, I can add 45s in the ports and give you the rest of the dimensions. Are you still thinking the shorter/wider box? FYI, I guessed the cutout diameter. Make sure since you are mounting inverted that the woofer's rubber surround will not come in contact with the wood. If you don't mount inverted, the box needs to be bigger and the cutout smaller. Daniel Shepard
Im going to go with the one that is 36" long so that the subs look properly spaced after I make a trim panel. do I need 45s? I heard they are usless
ear2ear
I didn't mean 45s throughout the whole box...just in the port and behind the port for strength. Pretty much exactly like john253a posted in post #7. Would you make seperate legs for the box or want them as part of the sides/front/back? If you don't want 45s that's fine, but you'll still need some more dimensions. Daniel Shepard
I say no on the 45s, I have never heard a noticable difference. And yes, just make sides longer. what other dimentions do you need from me?
ear2ear
You need dimensions from me...haha - unless you want to figure out the cut lengths for the port pieces yourself. Also the size of the top and the bevel angle. There is technically enough info in the drawing above to figure it out, but the dimensions are through the port centerline. They add up to 30", but the port pieces do not.
