TylerParrish Posted September 3, 2012 Report Posted September 3, 2012 I know it probably takes quite a bit of math, but that's what I'm best at. I know how to build decent "general" boxes, but I was wondering what are the things I need to know for building a box to a specific sub so that I can get the most out of the subs I want. bkolfo4 Posted September 3, 2012 Report Posted September 3, 2012 Designing a box for a specific sub is fairly easy. You can find a lot of info at diysubwoofers.org or you can buy books like Vance Dickinson's loudspeaker cookbook. The issue is that most car subs do not model up looking like "ideal" subwoofers. They take advantage of the vehicle cabin gain and in most cases much higher power driving them. The tools can still be very handy if you have experience with the response of your vehicle or if you are comparing 2 subs in a particular box, or one sub in 2 different boxes. Brian Current system: 1997 Blazer - (4) Customer Fi NEO subs with (8) American Bass Elite 2800.1s Previous systems: 2000 Suburban - (4) BTL 15's and (4) IA 40.1's = 157.7 dB at 37 Hz. 1992 Astro Van - (6) BTL 15's and (6) IA 40.1's = 159.7 dB at 43 Hz.

Brian ahh, thanks, so it's not always about the subs....damn, there are wayyyy too many factors in car audio :/ i guess it's the risk we're willing to take What the f**k is an appropriate signature supposed to look like?2013 Kia Forte Koup Pioneer AVH-X4600BT iDMax 12 DD M1c @ 2 ohms Rockford Prime 200.2 Pioneer 6.75" Comp Set XS S3400, D2700 Project DB Battery Terminals Axxess ASWC Stinger HPM Everywhereeee 90 Sq. OrionStang Posted September 4, 2012 Report Posted September 4, 2012 Your best bet is to decide on which sub you want to use. Then, look for people that have actually used that sub and know what it does and does not like. SMD Super Seller My Feedback Thread
