Two things I noticed right away is you are spending way to much on old technology as far as your motherboard and processor combo. The 1155 socket is pointless at this time because of the newer 2011 chipset. Here is what I have in my system, which when the 6-core processors drop in price you can upgrade just the processor, plus this motherboard has 8 RAM slots opposed to 4 of that other motherboard. Also a SSD is nice but it isn't going to be needed for most people. I run a velociraptor 10K rpm 300g drive as my main HDD and I use my PC for my photography business running Photoshop CS6 and Lightroom 4 plus all the latest games and everything loads super fast and it cost over a 100 bucks less than that SSD. I also didn't see a second hard drive in your list of parts, you will need one because 256g or even 300g is nothing these days. Just the operating system which you also didn't list will take up about 60g add some games and movies and you are out of room.

I still disagree with the 2011>1155 thing. X79 offers no performance benefit over Z77 for single- or dual-card setups. You're paying $100 more for the motherboard. The quad-core processor is $30 cheaper than the 3770K but to overclock it you've got to start playing with BLCK. Games won't even utilize more than 4 threads so a 6C/12T chip is a waste of money (plus Intel chips don't drop in price much). 8 RAM slots is great but I don't know a single person who uses their machine for gaming who has a viable use for more than 16GB of RAM other than RAMDisks.

SSD > Velociraptor all day. Windows and programs will take around 50-60GB as you said. That leaves ~160GB on a 240GB drive. Seeing as movies, music, and data will wind up on the platter drive 160GB is a MASSIVE amount of space to store games on. Throw BF3, SC2, and D3 on there an you've still got over 120GB free on your SSD.

The 670 vs 680 thing's an easy call. If you plan on overclocking, the 680 will win. It's $100 more but a 670 will never touch it. If you're not looking to overclock the graphics card then get a factory-overclocked card like the EVGA Superclock or MSI's Power Edition. They'll come close to stock 680-level performance for $50-$70 less.

wtf is lolcats?

I'd def get a fat hooker if i had to resort to that kinda thing. I feel like they'd be grateful and work harder. Also its more bang for my buck, more real estate for my dollar if you catch my drift. its like the Costco of streetwalkers.

I was hoping for 150 :(.

I was hoping she would let me put it in her butt

they have phantom cases that do have windows

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811146085

or if you're nit picky like me, i prefer the regular case over the windowed case because the front door to the drive bays opens differently between the two. and with how my PC is set up, i want it to open from left to right. but i still want a window too. i'm stuck between 2 cases for my new build, but if i go with this one i'm getting a regular white phantom case with this

http://store.nzxt.com/product_p/pa%20phan%20wi.htm

thought about just taking that huge ass fan off and putting a window there, but maxim showed me that link. i would still probably try to replace it with a window depending on how i'd get it to look. but after buying the plexi and all that it might be better off just buying the new door

The motherboard I posted is actually cheaper than the 1155 board the OP posted and it's a much better board for future expansion. The 3820 is a 2011 socket which is current technology for less than the 3770k and it can be overclocked to 4.2ghz with a click of a button. And I'm not sure how you can say that Intel prices don't come down....in less than a year the 1k dollar chips will be 450 bucks. I also use all 8 slots on my board filled with 1600mhz ram for 32g worth of memory. Yes I do use my machine for my photography business but I also use it to game and for the extra 100 or so bucks I spent on memory it was well worth it.

I have used both and the SSD is a waste of money for the average PC user. But if you like paying twice the price for an unnoticeable increase, hey it's your money.

why the fuck is an i7 needed? unless he has like triple or quad SLI/crossfire, the graphics card is going to bottle neck WAY before the processor.

Why would anyone in their right might spend more money on something when they could get current technology for cheaper and be able to upgrade in the future for much cheaper? Games may not need the technology now but in the future they will and he will be back at square one. I like spending a few grand every 5-6 years not every 2.

Holy shit good catch Phototini. I didn't see the $350 pricetag on that motherboard! That's WAY more than you should be putting into a motherboard for this type of system. Something like ASUS's Z77 PRO board offers you just as much as the ASRock board for $140 less. If you like the all-black theme for components (though the black/blue board will look better IMO if you have blue LED's inside) then go with ASUS's Z77 Sabertooth board. There's no reason you should be spending $350 on a Z77 motherboard.

And I hate the 2011 vs 1155 socket debate but there's honestly nothing to gain moving to the X79 platform for a gamer who only uses 1 or 2 cards. No games are going to properly use all those cores. The added cache is great and the perks outside gaming are awesome but unless you're actually using it for video/photo editing or a triple/quad GPU setup X79 is just a waste of money as far as gaming performance goes.

Plus SSD's aren't twice the money. The 300GB Velociraptor is $0.53/GB. The Chronos Deluxe is $0.79/GB. The price increase brings MASSIVE speed benefits. Even the newer, faster 1TB Velociraptor offers slower performance than Intel's last-gen mainstream (not performance) SATA2 SSD's. A Tier 1 performance SSD like the Chronos Deluxe or Patriot's Wildfire will blow away a mechanical drive.

HOLY SHITTING DICK NIPPLES BATMAN!!!

I just realized ASUS's P8Z77 PRO board comes with a free 8GB (2x4GB) kit of high-quality G.Skill ARES 1600mhz RAM. That's an ABSURD combo for $208. If you're feeling that 16GB is what you need you can always pick up a matching 8GB kit of ARES RAM for $42. That's $250 for the motherboard and RAM as opposed to the $434 you had planned in the original build. That's $184 in savings. Grab a MSI GTX 670 Power Edition instead of the MSI TwinFrozr 680 and that's another $190. $374 is what you're saving now! A pair of 670's only requires a 700W PSU at max in case you add a second card later on so you can grab a stylish and quality unit like XFX's 750W PRO and save another $32. That's a total savings of $406!

But wait! There's more! The MSI GTX 670 Power Edition only costs $410! Which means for $4 more you could buy a SECOND GTX 670 and suddenly you've got a badass blue/black themed SLI-powered dual-GPU setup that will rock benchmarks, look killer, impress everyone you know, and TEAR through games for years to come!

I'm sorry I can't agree with solid states blowing away a mechanical drive. I've used both and saw maybe a .5sec increase in boot up time and no difference in application loading or increased performance in photoshop working with 30mb images. But as far as the chipset I agree with what you say but I would never be able to buy something knowing I can't upgrade it without replacing everything.
