How to wire multiple batteries?

Recommended Posts

As the title says....how do you wire say a battery up front and 2 batteries in the back? Also, do i need a fuse for both the back batteries as well as for the one up front? Any other useful info for wiring multiple batteries is also appreciated

Not sure about the way to wire, I've heard parallel wiring is only suggested if you have an aftermarket Alt, because it's too much strain on stock alts. But I would definitely fuse between the batts.

so how would i wire it up without being in parallel? Since i do have a stock alt for now? just run the power and ground to the frame? Seems like it would be more effiecient in parallel....

Don't wire it any other way other than parallel or your next thread will be on how to stop car fires faster.

why is that? oh shit, conflicting replies, time to get some info backin people's info.

Connect all the positives to positives and negatives to negative, parallel. If you don't want to do a negative run from front to back do the big 3 up front and make sure you find a good spot to ground in the back. You need to put a fuse within 18" of of the batteries in the front and the back.

Just run parallel, + to +, - to -.

For the fusing, the safest way is to put a fuse between each battery. Me personally, I would only fuse the long run of the front to rear, then keep the rear 2 batteries non-fused.

why is that? oh shit, conflicting replies, time to get some info backin people's info.

Well, only other way to wire them is series. Which would be + to -, - to +. Do we really need to go over why not to do that?

If you wire in series you'll be running 24v or higher depending on how many batteries were talking about

series will double the voltage..doubling voltage = oh shit! wtf!....Wire them in parallel, search the other threads asking this question and you will find your answer much easier with much more input

I'm doing a run of + and - from the front, no need to ground in the back. And if i put 2 batts in the back, should I have a fuse before the first one and inbetween then 1st and 2nd one, or just 1 right before the 1st one?
