2 12 inch lvl 4 m2's box questions

Recommended Posts

hey, I know that it is recommended 1.5ft3 for a ported build for each sub.. that would put me at about 3ft3 for the total box.. i was thinking of building a box that is about 4.5-5ft3 because i want to hit the lows louder and i have space for the box.. ill be throwing about 1700w at 1ohm to each sub.. anyone know what would happen if i give it this much space? like will the sub get damaged?

You should be happy with the lows from the recommended box size, if built correctly that is. Besides, It will be 3 cu ft after displacement, it could be about 4 cu ft after port, bracing, and subs. Just tune low if you want lows. The bigger the box, the lower the power handling.

What the f**k is an appropriate signature supposed to look like?

What exactly is after displacement? Wouldn't port bracing and the subs lower my cu ft because it's taking up space? And so you're saying that I should lower my power with a bigger box? Or does it not matter?

It means everything is gonna take up more space than just 3 cu ft. Yes, all that is going to lower your cubic feet. I suggest getting friendly with Torres and mocking up a few designs, easiest way to know the volume of the box before and after displacement.

I would stick with the recommended airspace.

I guess what i'm trying to find out is why the recommended airspace is recommended lol :peepwall:

thanks.. that's what i thought.. i was trying to use Torres.. i think i kind of got the hang of it.. i guess i could use the extra space i have and build an amp rack or something

Because that is the optimal airspace for the given driver on rated power. If you want to over power a driver, then you need to take away airspace to help the driver be able to handle the power. If you want to run less power, then you can add airspace to make the driver more efficient with the power that you have.

If your box is too big on rated power or more, you are going to have problems.

O i see what you mean now.. that's good to know! thanks for the help.. so if i give the woofers more power but in the smaller box they would play the same lows as a bigger box with lower power?
