Real96SS Posted September 29, 2012 Report Posted September 29, 2012 So after checking the K-Factor on a couple TL meters I have been on,I find that I scored highest on the ones with the higher K-Factor.To test this theory I tried it on my own TL. K-Factor goes from 177.5-178-5.Score goes up almost a whole DB if I put it at 178.5.So with that being said, who else has ever tested this to see how much their score have gone up? If you have a TL try it and post the difference. I'm also wondering how this haven't come up for world record events.Reason being is that if this is true and there is not a set K-Factor for these events, that means that Joe Blow in Africa may have set the record by .5db due to the K-Factor being higher than Joe Smokes K-Factor here in the US. These are just questions that popped in my head today while I was testing. So any info becomes future knowledge for me. finkster Posted September 29, 2012 Report Posted September 29, 2012 Technically, you're right. The K factor is usually set to 177.8 I think. I dont think the newer ones can be changed very easily. The K factor is used to calibrate the mics equally. If you dont know what to set yours to, you could always meter using a trusted TL at a competition and then metering again using yours. You then subtract the difference in score using the K factor... In other words. If yours is set to 177.3....and you meter a 155.0 with YOUR meter. and you meter a 155.5 on the TRUSTED meter....you would up your K factor to 177.8 DAT 4125------>RE XXX comps active Eclipse cd7000 I serve drunks for a living
finkster Posted September 29, 2012 Report Posted September 29, 2012 Oh duh, it also depends on which sensor you're using. So that 177.8 may not be right....but that isn't an uncommon setting. I know it's supposed to tell you on the sensor where to set the k factor at. DAT 4125------>RE XXX comps active Eclipse cd7000 I serve drunks for a living
Real96SS Posted September 29, 2012 Author Report Posted September 29, 2012 My K-Factor is 177.8 and I have the newer TL.Also at most shows I'm pretty sure their running either a personal TL or the shops TL.Which I see no way that the K-Factor can be the same as other events. I don't see this being a problem until someone actually starts asking at shows to see what the K-Factor on the TL is set at.When that happens then what? kbsmoker Posted September 29, 2012 Report Posted September 29, 2012 It really wouldn't matter as long as the K factor is the same for everyone at that show. Pretty sure that when your in comp mode you can't change the factor. www.dcsoundlab.comyoutube video's kbsmoker2011 MECAOH AS3 Champ 147.5OH DB2 Champ 125.9WF AS3 3rd 147.3WF DB3 2nd 128.3 SystemPioneer AVH-P4300DVD2 sets Fusion Encounter 6.5 componentson Crunch Ground Pounder 1200.418" DC NEO on DC 5.0KKnukonceptz 1/0 through outBig 3 all 1/0XS D6500under hood D3100 in the backMechman 270....rebuilt by Ohio Generator
Real96SS Posted September 29, 2012 Author Report Posted September 29, 2012 Well I learned that the K factor can be different on different sensors as long as it matches whats on the sensor.Reason is because that's what makes the sensors read all about the same.Yeah I agree at a normal show it doesn't matter as long as everybody uses the same K factor.
