AlpineGuy87
looks like you have a goal set for you there.. Pretty interesting. I would say though that the component speakers really wouldnt require that big of boxes, if you keep in mind, they dont run bad in "free-air" but if your making towers just make the towers wide enough for the speakers and with depth it depends if you'll be porting your low frequency speakers. In my opinion, the boxes for the mid's high's do not need to be that large. If you have seen the prefab boxes for like 6x9's you'll see that you really dont need whole lot of box for those. However if you plan to mix in a mid-ranged low-ranged woofer in there you'll need to get the specs right for porting that sub or mid-ranged speaker Edited January 17, 2008 by AlpineGuy87 Quote 06 SCION tC

AlpineGuy87
5.1 is just basically your left, right, center (aka FRONTS) and then the other 2 are your Left Surround and Right Surround (positioned side of listener) then you have a Subwoofer. 6.1 could be an additional Rear called Center Rear (position directly behind listener 7.1 is Just like the 5.1 setup but with 2 extra Rear aka Left Rear and Right Rear. (positioned behind listener) Here are examples of each... Edited January 18, 2008 by AlpineGuy87 Quote 06 SCION tC
AlpineGuy87
keep in mind you'll spend like tripple if not more on making this system setup because you need power inverter/converters to go from 120v to 12v and you have to have the right powerlines and proper amps and reciever to power these speakers. The box build will be the easiest and cheapest part to do but without the proper tuning it wouldnt be worth it at all. Quote 06 SCION tC
Chris D
Look into some home theater forums. like AVSforum.com and HTguide.com. They have a lot of people who build DIY speakers and subs there, so that may help.

Why would you need a power inverter? for the highs some recievers take 4 ohm loads. and for the sub i highly recomend buying a plate amp as they are called. look at these: http://www.partsexpress.com/webpage.cfm?we...ectGroup_ID=505 I got 1 pioneer 12" running off a plate amp and the box i made my self and finished it nice. and it is by far the best powered sub ive herd for only 175 that i put into everything for it. And you would not want to run a 12v amp to them anywase, it would just be to much work and a waste of money.
