Slinky
I actually like the new wire colors.. Think i'll pick some up just to offset the regualr colors lol. Get some videos up! Thanks man. So, the bright green and blue wires are 8 gauge knuconceptz kandy kable. It was the lowest price 8 gauge wire that knu sells so thats why I went for that. the 4 gauge power and ground is knu wire but from a different line of theirs. I have some 1/0 knuconceptz wire in there as well and I think it may be from the same line as the 4 gauge. I didn't buy all the wire at the same time which would account for the different colors. I'm a sucker for a good deal and that kandy kable was priced just right. At least I've kept all my amps and speakers rockford. Slinky
UPDATE: Play time is over. It's time to wall it off. I just about finished the box part of the wall this weekend. I still need to do the front baffle as well as the internal bracing. From there I will focus on sealing it off to the B pillar with fiberglass. Equipment: 4 15 inch Obsidian audio subs 2 P1000-1BD's for the amps (1300rms a piece) 200 amp Singer alt XS power D3400 On with the pics. 4 sheets of 3/4 MDF Trying to make the floor level Pay no attention to the taped power block. It is only temporary until I can screw it to the box. Work area Testing the fit of the walls Testing the fit of the back Using 2x2's to secure everything Testing the fit of the top Trying to make the most of the space I have. So before you critique.. Not every outside cut is perfect, but I couldn't care less. Its the inside of the box that counts. I used the meade civic technique and glued and screwed a second layer of 3/4 mdf on the insides of the walls. This thing is already damn strong. I don't have a pic of the double layer top and bottom but I did those as well. Slinky
So the subs are in and playing... I haven't yet sealed the box off to the B pillar yet but I had to get a little taste and here are my thoughts. It sounds pretty good and hits pretty hard even without the port being rounded over, but I'm not sure I'm happy with the output. It just doesn't seem as loud as 4 15's on 2600 rms should sound. My theories(hopefully) are that the subs need time to break in and sealing the wall to the B pillars should make a huge difference. Another thing I noticed is it just isn't hitting the lows like it should despite it being tuned at 32 Hz. My theory on this is that I may not be getting a full, uncrossovered signal from the head unit. I'm using the stock head unit and it runs to a factory amp. I took my inputs from the outputs of that factory amp and they could very well have a low pass filter on them. I did notice the lows were a little weak when I had the 2 12's but I had always just assumed those boxes I was using weren't tuned low enough(38 hz). I really hope its not just a bad box design. Don't get me wrong, it's pretty loud, just not what I expected. Anyone have any input? Reed Farrar
damn thats nice!! went from a casual setup to all out. that is weird that you say it doesnt have much output. how do you have it wired now?
Slinky
damn thats nice!! went from a casual setup to all out. that is weird that you say it doesnt have much output. how do you have it wired now? Thanks man. Go big or go home. I've always loved wall builds and I missed my wall from my old car too much not to put one in here. As for the output.. I just am not quite sure. My gameplan is to seal the wall to the B pillars, and then test it again. If I'm still not happy with the output, I may try replacing the factory head unit with an aftermarket one. I just hate to lose the steering wheel controls. I'll give the subs some time to break in and see how it goes. I am liking it though. I have it wired so that there are 2 subs per amp. They are dual 4 ohm subs so I have everything wired in parallel. I double checked the resistance at the amp last night and each amp is indeed seeing a 1 ohm load. Edit: So, I haven't yet put a separator piece between the top and bottom subs. I've seen this done before so the cones aren't working against each other but wasn't sure if it was necessary. Would this be something worth doing? I guess I also need to roundover the port though its gonna be tricky as you can see the bottom subs are right at the edge of the port. This is due to the angles I had to build the box at.
