Well today was not a good day, I was driving to subway and my temp was in the red so I got to subway, poped the hood and there was anti freeze all over the place! Mainly by my coolant and it was on my alt, so me and my dad found the prob, here the hose rubbed against the alt belt and put a slit in it, damn hose cost me 36 bucks lol so we fixed it, I noticed my volt meter would drop to low 12s and that so I just thought it wast shitty ass stinger meter, I was on my way home today and my lights looked really dim, volt meter was reading low 12s so went I pushed on the gas it went back to normal, 14.3 volts. So I watched it a little more, I noticed my lights were dim again, 12.2 volts it was so I watched it and it got brighter and I looked at my volt meter, 14.3 volts! So I wanna say its my alt or my belt but I don't see how the belt would be doing this bc if was slipping then it would of feel off already right? But to me it sounds like an alt. can someone help?

What kind of car first sir. If the belt is slipping due to coolant then no it will not always come off or squeal. It also can cause the same problem you are describing. At the same time the regulator could be messed up from the coolant. Is it internal or external? Without more on the car I can't be sure. Too many variables but leaning towards the alt.

Turn your car off and let it sit for an hour or two. What is your battery voltage?

If you start the car and let it idle without your system playing, what does it read? And how many amps is your alt?

While you are at it.. Check for slip. Let the car cool down so the engine bay is room temp, start the car, turn on headlights, a/c, etc to create a large electrical demand. Then after 5-10 second of this, turn the car off. Then go and feel the alternator pulley. If it is hot, you are slipping.

It's 105 amp. And that I don't know, ill go out right now and let it idle to find out, ill find out the other stuff to and get back to you!

Nice didn't think about that part lol. Nice to have smarter people around to correct things or make it simpler lol.

Ok. I started my car and when I did my volt meter said 12.3 so took the dmm and the battery read 12 volts, then did the alt to battery and it said 12 then jumped to 14, my volt meter then said 14.4 volts. A squeezing noise started to come from the alt so I turned the a/c of max, dome light one, system on but not really playing. Had that going for 5 min. So i shut the car off and felt the 2 pullys and there were not hot or barley warm...so now what?
