make sure your woofers are still wired ok. Ive seen a wire come loose from the terminal and short out on the basket and cause it to protect .

well, i unplugged the speaker wires completely from the amp before restarting the truck, but to be sure i went out and hit them with the dmm. they are reading 1.4 which i think is good because they are supposed to be at 1, but i heard the the dmm will actually read a little higher because of the leads or something in the dmm itself... i didnt actually pull the out of the box though, should i?

Well when you unplugged the subs from the amp did the protect light go off?.

yeah if the amp is just hooked up with power/ground/remote, and there are no frayed wires anywhere, then i'd x2 on the amp giving out.

yeah, i figured but was hoping it was just acting up. is it normal for an amp to do this though when subs are off... just quit?

well, update for you guys! the ground wire ring mounted to the chassis from the amp, it looked like it got a little hot at some point... it was silver where it should have been gold and the exposed wire from the tip of the ring was slightly corroded so i decided to change it out and also upgrade it from 8 to 4 gauge... hoping for the best... the amp turned on!! it must have been the bad ground at the chassis. thanks for all of your help!
