amp in protect for no aparent reason!?!? wtf??

subs - sundown sa12d4 X2 wired @ 1 ohm

head unit - kenwood kdc-x789

enclosure - pre-fab, ported, tuned way high.

i was sitting still in my drive way, subs off... turned subs on, no bass. i look at the amp and it's on, no bass though. i turn off the truck and then back on... the amp is off ant the protect light is on, wtf? any help would be greatly appreciated.

did you check your connections? is the sub blown? speaker wire could be touching ground, or another speaker wire. power/ground wires may have an issue. rca's may be pinched.

i unplugged RCAs and speaker wires from the amp and tried turning it back on, it was still in protect.

i dont believe that amp is one ohm stable.

yeah it is, it does 1200 @ 1 per the box it came in, plus, i have been running this amp at 1 ohm for like 4-5 years.

it has actually been a very good amp until now. got it brand new years ago for $170 shipped i believe it was.

yeah, i could see that... but what has me so confused is the subs were off at the time, do amps just do that? if so, thats an acceptable reason for me, and ill be posting about how to fix it lol.

make sure your woofers are still wired ok. Ive seen a wire come loose from the terminal and short out on the basket and cause it to protect .
