Clif
so i got these PA speakers that i bought. There is a 600 watt 15" sub along with a 50 watt tweeter in each box. Both drivers are rated 8 ohms and they are wired in parellel so at the terminal it shows 4 ohms. my question is, is there a way to maby put a resistor in line with the tweeter so the sub gets most of the power. cause i already blew 2 tweeters cause i turned it up to much so it would hit some bass but then the tweeter could not handle it. So what are the possible options so that the sub gets more power and the tweeter gets less? Please let me know. thanks. EricM9104
You'd have to use an amp for mids and another amp for highs since if you use a cross-over while parelleling the speakers, that cross-over will affect the woofer too. Clif
i can disconnect everything. currently the only thing in there for the crossover is a capacitor on the tweeter. I would like to put a coil on the woofer to block out the higher freq on the woofer. i can change the wiring. but maby a nother amp powering them is the only thing i can do. ChevyBoy
if you use another inline resistor with the tweet, use an 8 ohm. that will change the resistance altogether, but when the power hits the terminal, more power will go towards the sub since it has less resistance. but the setup wont be getting as much power anymore. Clif
thats what i originally thought but ive never seen a 8 or 4 ohm resisotr that would be able to handle like 45 watts or maby i should go with like 35 so the resistor burns out before the tweeter dose. Clif
k i looked and found some lower ohm resistors. but they say there only rated to 10 or 12 watts? will these work? and how would i hook them up? im going to read up on some crossovers again at the 12volt. ChevyBoy
hook them up? cut your speaker wire to your tweeter, solder one of those bad boys in.
Clif
k but then i saw some when they had them hooked up across, going from positive to negitve just before the tweeter but i dont know i think that is for a highpass filter. but a 12 watt resistor i dont think thats big enough? i have a 50 watt tweeter? ChevyBoy
50 watt peak most likely. try the biggest one you can find. go hit up the shack in the morning, or pm bibby. he works there so he might be able to clue you in.
