adamb Posted December 4, 2012 Report Posted December 4, 2012 Hi, new member here. I've been apart of other forums such as: R6 Forum, S10-forum and a few others. I decided to finally replace the blown speakers in my 2002 GMC sonoma; and went with a rockford setup due to the cyber monday sales. Adding new dash and door speakers; adding to the kicker L7 i currently have. The rockford amp i received has terminals for spade connectors (specifically #8 for all 8 of the speaker inputs, power, ground and the remote wire. I'm just wondering if its necessary to crimp and/or solder on connectors for each and every wire or is it okay to just attach the wire directly to the amp. My only concern is that it may not be secure enough. Thanks a lot, please let me know if there is additional information i need to provide!
Blackedout Posted December 4, 2012 Report Posted December 4, 2012 The power and ground you'll definitely want to terminate. It's a good idea to solder some ends on the speaker inputs as well... But it's not mandatory. You'll still get continuity and a solid connection Trunk Build Log
adamb Posted December 4, 2012 Author Report Posted December 4, 2012 thats an answer i was looking for. i planned on soldering the speakerwire directly to the speakers but i will go shop around for some spade connectors before i install. Sorry about the question, again, i just wasn't exactly sure as to the best way to connect to a rockford amp (with the set screw going directly in the middle), the amps i have used in the past have a slightly different method. Is any time of termination required? To me the wires just shoved in looks pretty bad the recessed hole will allow for you to hide the end of the wire jacketing and allow for ample wire inside. if you have terminals that are just little philips screws connectors are a better cleaner way of doing it. however not required by any means. i personally all ways terminate with some sort of connector when its needed.
