I know JL under rates their products. but i want to know how much i can push them coninuous without blowing em. I want to give em at least 1000 each since im not happy with the amp they are on now. thanks guys.

RMS rating is 500, 750 is danger zone. A rating should not be considered "under rated" - you are simply over rating the product ignoring what the manufacturer suggests - and in turn taking greater risk of wasting your time/money.

The answer completely depends on how loud and how long, combined with how much distortion.

I've read a speaker can achieve it's xmax well before it's rated power.

I've wired speakers at twice their RMS rating for several months without blowing anything. But I also was't turning up the amp to it's full output.

So basically, if you plan to beat it up or you are younger than 30, I would stay close to the rated power +/- 25%.

i decided to get 2 JL 750/1 1 for each sub, jl audio site suggests an amp ranging from 250-750 anything after that is danger zone, and i can also keep it at 4ohms to keep better sq. although I know i can push more i will leave it at that til i upgrade to 2 13w7 and sell the w6's.. everything else is done just gotta build the box

Yeah I was gonna say, you weren't happy with the sound due to everything wrong with that amp. That JL will suit you just fine. Slash series are good since you can get into the 11's and still do rated power (although you don't want voltage to drop that low)

he shouldnt have too much problem with voltage drop, the cars came with a 140amp alt and decent sizzed wiring to the battery! i only drop to 13.7 from 14.0 with a 1500 watt amp at .5 ohms

Yeah I actually dont drop to bad, i say about 12.5 is the lowest ive seen and that was with everthing on including inverter with computer plugged in before i rewired it.... wiring in the E39 is pretty stout, although im still going to go with 0/1g replacements throughout the entire car.

the slash series is good but only the first version, the v2 and v3 with built in china and had more issues and were not made as durable, v2 actually were discontinued faster than v1 by JL, they r still good amps but I want durability. But Im going with the HD series. A few friends have them in their cars and i like how they perform. Low heat great sound and awsome power. they r just so damn expensive. But for this build i want an all jl setup with the RF 3sixty.2 I had to send in for repair/refurbished-replacement. For the black 540i i with switch it up a bit and get to know some other brands.
