New Alternator - Input needed

Recommended Posts

I was wondering if you guys can give me some input on some changes i am making to my electrical system. Currently i am running two "220 amp" alternators from a off brand. These are being ran together using a MLA. I recently purchased a DC Power 320 amp alternator to replace one of my off brand units. My question is this: would it be best to just replace one of them and continue using them together using my MLA, or split them up and have the 320 power my audio system and use one of the 220s to power the vehicle? Or do you have any other ideas or input? My equipment list is in signature. Thanks in advance

you are on an all twelve volt system right/ no sixteen volts ora nything like that? If so Id run them together. no sense on splitting your voltage. Your factory electrical wont use the 220 to its full capabilities so youd be really underutilizing it while your system is capable of maxing out your 320.

Yes just a standard 12volt system, nothing crazy. Thats what i was thinking, i just wasnt sure if having two diff alts (output size) would work properly connected via my MLA. I also was thinking it may be better to scrap the MLA (since it is not adjustable) and grab something like the XS Power VCM.

get out a welder and start fabing a bracket or go buy one, then slowly replace the 2 oldies

Good thinking man! Honestly i didnt really think of doing that since i have the dual bracket, but that is a great idea as well.
