Alpine PDX 1000, but what sub(s)?

Okay so I'm new to these forums and believe this would be an excellent place to post this question that has been tearing me apart.

I currently have 2 12" RE audio SEX drivers in a ported box powered by my Alpine PDX 1000 amp. I believe i can get better sound and harder pounding subs than the ones i have. I have thought about doing a JL 12w7 in the high output box which i can get for just under $800. with so many people saying you can get better sounding subs for a better price, I'd like to get some suggestions.

I want some subs that pound but i want them to sound good and have good sound quality.

I'm keeping the Alpine PDX.1000 amp as i got it for a good price

What do you all suggest? I am looking to spend no more than $800 on the setup (box and woofers)

I do not have a second battery either so if you all suggest a whole new system under a grand I'll consider it.

Thanks in advance!

They'll be going into a 2010 Malibu if that makes any difference.

Has anyone paid attention to the amp he is using? He's got 1000W to throw at 2 subs. Who built the box for the REs that you have now? If its a prefab, I already know the first and best way to get louder with the equipment you have NOW.

I also agree to the suggestions on Fi for subs. For the power you have to work with, the SSDs would be the better option. They're rated at 1000W each so you don't quite have enough amp for them. If you want some subs that will operate very well on the lower power, you might try the SA12 from Sundown or the VVX12 from Skar. The prices on those subs are pretty comparable to the Fi SSD.

My real input:

The subs probably aren't your limiting factor with your current system, your box is. I'd like more details on whether its custom made, or a prefab box. Getting a properly designed box with enough port area for the subs is the most crucial part of your subs sounding like they should.

Im not the one you want to try to troll. Just a fyi for you.

I Aggree with clean

Except on the not enough amp

You can alway under power a sub with no issues at all and 2 fiq12 on 1000rms will work well

But your money's would be better spent on lower power hunger subs unless you plane to upgrade amp latter on

If you have the space 2x 15

If not 2x 12 or 3x10

Are all options

Best bet to post some measurement

Budget and what you want to achieve

Also post some measurements of current box

a new box will likely make you louder, play lower, etc.

and when I say new box, I mean one that you build with your hands and not bought at best buy.
