Made some progress on the system last night.

Mounted up my screamers. Ran out of time and didn't get enough time to wire them up, plus I don't really need to have them at the moment since I don't have my 4 channel nor do I have anything that will keep up for them lol.

Here they are put back into the car...I may end up seperating them a bit more (mounting the top one higher) as there is a little bit of overlap when you look at them from the seat.

Note the small tweeter on the door...for a size comparison, that is a 1" tweeter lol.

2013-02-01_00-02-08_942_zps20c5a585.jpg

I really can't wait to hear these things...one pair sounded fantastic, really excited to hear what two pairs do...cone surface area ftw? lol

On another note, I was kind of impressed with how good the speakers that were installed sounded. All I knew is that they were Lanzars (the tweeter said it). I was kinda surprised as the rest of the system was pretty crappy. Cheap DUAL head unit and when I swapped the rear 6x9s for my kickers, I found some super ghetto RENEGADES in there lol.

Either way, I tore the door apart last night because I wanted to hook up my screamers and figured I could just tap into the wire, disconnect the tweeter, and run the wire up to the screamers. I know this sounds like a totally ghetto way of doing it, but if you were there when I ran the rcas for the sub amp to the head unit, and the amount of time and frustration it took me and my friends, you'd understand why I didn't feel like running wires to the head unit last night lol.

After removing the door panel, I was kind of surprised at how decent the mid looked and when I removed it, I realized that these weren't just any run of the mill lanzar crap mids. I found a passive crossover box in there as well. (side note, my front windows have issues opening when it's cold out, they seem to get hung up and open really slow till they are about half way open...I'm guessing these crossovers may be rubbing against the window or something as they were secured to the inside of the door).

Anyway, after dicking around for about an hour or so, trying to come up with the easiest way to get everything back together, I finally gave up and just rehooked them up cuz I needed to get home and go to bed. I think I'm just going to say fuck it and wait until I get my 4 channel installed to hook the screamers up (partly because wiring them to the head unit is probably not a good idea considering they are 4ohms a piece and there's really no good way to wire them to the head unit without running a really high impedance or too low.)

Hopefully I'll have some more updates this weekend. I'm going to try to find some time to go out to my shop and do some more work, I'd really like to get my 8" midbasses installed and my 4channel. Only time will tell.

  • 4 weeks later...

Been a while since I updated this...there's a lot, but at the same thing, not a lot lol.

We'll start with last week...replaced the spark plugs, plug wires, air filter and o2 sensor...WOW what a difference. Prior to doing this, the thing could barely get out of her own way...but now she's a lot more peppy. Sounds a lot better too.

the plugs were knarly, and the plug wires weren't much better.

Didn't grab any pix of the new wires installed but they're accell 8mm's that I had laying around from a previous car. the o2 sensor didn't look very new either lol...you can kinda see the plug wires in this picture:

the air filter was pretty bad too but I didn't grab a picture of it

Also got around to doing the big 3, but again, didn't grab any pix

Then Sunday...took the boat out on the lake to do some drifting:

I had taken a few laps the Sunday before, but the extra power from the tuneup made it a lot more fun this time around!

more to come...

Broke down and ordered an ebay 220amp alternator...Decided to toss a little more of my funds at my rb26 project car right now, but I'm sick of not having any alternator output. cost $180 and should get me by till I upgrade to 300s. my buddy has one of these and hasn't had any issues with it other than it getting hot after the first couple burps causing the voltage to drop a hair:

2013-02-25_21-13-39_798_zps47ade700.jpg

Also picked up an Accell distributor cap and rotor and a BWD OEM replacement coil (judging by the plugs and wires, these parts probably could use a change.) I have a new thermostat, coolant temp sensor and gasket I have yet to install as well. it currently leaks a bit of coolant from these.

Was talking to a friend of mine about swapping vortech heads and multiport fuel injection onto her as a possible summer project, and he decided to look around for what would work on my engine. Came up with a swap to TPI (tuned port injection) from a 305 that would be the cheapest and easiest route...found out another one of my buddies was selling his full setup, with ecu, and a set of heads from his SBC z32 Nissan 300zx swap after he decided to go with a 5.3L instead.

Either way, got a smokin' deal. Basically a plug and play swap, and a set of #993 heads with a mild port and 500 lift springs for $300! Couldn't pass it up.

Got a bit of low oil pressure since I bought the car, so I'm planning on replacing the oil pump as soon as I pull my summer daily driver out of storage. Figured it would be a perfect time to swap heads and the TPI setup. Just need a set of gaskets and some new head studs and a few misc parts...shouldn't be more than a couple hundred bucks on top of what i have already. Also will probably throw a mild cam in it too while I'm at it. If we end up getting a lift by then at my shop, I'll probably either modify the stock crossmember for dual exhaust, or just pick one up from a later model one and throw the set of long tube headers I got from a friend on and do dual exhaust.

  • 7 months later...

Been way too long since I've updated this...lot has changed, lot has happened.

We'll skip the Japanese Tentacle pron 6th order bandpass I built for 2x Type R 10s (there's a build thread for that somewhere around here lol)

Got my new level 6 kinda installed...tossed it in the box from my old level 5 m1. Modified it to add more ports (8 instead of 5). Going to drop down to 6 to keep tuning low.
got it on 2 Audiopipe APSM2000s strapped.

Barely fit in the 240:

Reason the install is so ghetto is that I've got 2 Northern NSB170 AGM batteries on the way (130lb beasts) so I'll be tearing it apart again as soon as they arrive.

Should be doing a decent amount on this in the near future.

Got the batteries in...it was like christmas opening the box they came in. My buddy and I ordered 4, 2 for him, 2 for me. 520lbs of batteries hahaha

Spent a few hours installing them, just need to get them fully charged up (even after a 35mile drive home and a 220 amp alternator, they still need more hahaha):
