Make sure your box is built with good specs this will affect the sound a lot more than choosing between similar amps.

I already have a design for 2.25 cubic ft of airspace and port tuned to 32Hz. But I'm not really worries about output or performance of the amp as much as how much of a toll it's going to take on my electrical system. The less the better

hifonics is cheap, planet audio is cheaper. Why not save up a couple weeks (or however long) and get a nice soundqubed (aq) 2200d, on a pair of 2 ohm Skar VVX's? You'd be SO MUCH more satisfied if you wait and save as opposed to going the cheap route and buying a cheap amp and a T1 sub.

-playing with different setups

Alot of people dont like skar so you saying that means nothing. Alot of people also say aq2200d is an equal amp to the hifonics so you throwing out a system setup you like and bashing something else isnt helping. He may buy the skar subs and hate them. To correctly answer his questions is to give experience with those amps (personal experience) as some here already have. As i do agree i have heard alot about the aq amps to my knowledge they are not cea rated and the hifonics are. I personally love hifonics stuff sute they maybe power hungry but if your going big anyway upgrading the electrical system is going to be something that gets done regardless. Big 3 upgrade doesnt cost much and a second battery (kinetic) you can get for under $100 at whole sale places and online. I love my hifonics stuff and have never been disappointed. I will use different amps most likely in my next build but for budget builds i like them and have never had issues.

audioque is better than hifonics. sundown isn't cea rated, and their amps actually do like 700w OVER rated. it seems like 90% of the good amplifier companies, aren't actually cea rated. cea is just a sticker companies put on their amp boxes so 17 year old joe blow will be like "damn this amp is good because it says cea!" but what he doesn't know is that there are amps that dont have that stupid logo, that are far higher quality and output even more power. cea rating is bull shit anyway. you will literally never see 14.4v (the voltage cea rates their amps at) unless you have a huge electrical system with 0 voltage drop. and what about the GM cars that charge at 13.8? they will literally never be able to get the chance to see "rated" power. so you wont even see the power the amp is "rated" for. most of hifonics' lineup of amps dont even do rated power anyways, as was said by a representative. the ones that "do" rated, lose 18% of their power per 1 volt of source voltage drop.

The OP was more so asking about the brz1700.1 and several people answered and said they love hifonics. Sure not everyone will but everyone has an opinion and thats fair. I love sundown stuff, kicker stuff, alpine stuff heck anything that sounds good really. There is just no reason to bash one brand then another then recommend something else. Giving opinions or experiences is a better route. All in all there are tons of good brands out there and personally i wouldn't go with planet audio probably aq, hifonics, and sundown all make fantastic stuff from what i have seen and read and used. Running one sub? Sa-12 in a custom box with any of the amps that have been listed would be great and probably my choice setup but i havent used alot of rf stuff over my years in 12v so i cant honestly say yes or no for my opinion on the t1.

I would say if your looking for SQ to stick with 4 ohm. I have my 2012 RF T1D212" sub in a ported enclosure tuned to 35 hz running off a 1999 RF Power bd1000a1 pushing 500 watts RMS tuned w/ my DD-1 on SQL track(for got the db #) and it sounds great and still hits really hard. Its underpowered in my opinion but had planned on upgrading this spring to a T1500 and keeping it in 4 ohm, retuning it for SQ since i will be pushing more power to it. But then again, huge RF Fanatic!
