Holcomb Posted April 3, 2013 Author Report Posted April 3, 2013 It's a shop located near me. They are corresponding with RF HQ on it. And thanks both of you for the help. I was just looking for what the differences would be. So any help there? Holcomb Posted April 3, 2013 Author Report Posted April 3, 2013 wrong, you didn't subtract the displacement of the ports. if he used 3/4" wood then each port has a displacement of .13 cubes making each chamber 1.67 cubes tuned to 31.6hz. and if he used 1/2" wood then each port has a displacement of .07 cubes making each chamber 1.73 cubes tuned to 31.1hz. a lot of people forget this and that's why their boxes are tuned wrong. According to the 12volt website, that was about a 30.5 hz tuning. I'm not an expert, but I'm pretty sure the larger box with MDF will be louder. You didn't say how big the port is going to be, but should definitely sound different. It's 3/4" mdf and the ports are going to b much bigger. That was definitely a flag that they were observing lol My build: 2007 Pontiac G6 GTP 2 Rockford Fosgate P2D412 in a competition box 2 Rockford P300.1 (bass) Pioneer mids and highs amp Kenwood DDX-418 6.1" touchscreen head Big 3 upgrade interior LEDs and Strobe lights Black Spyder halo projector headlights Remin Carbonfiber dash kit www.youtube.com/fluentsarcasm1
FeelDaBass Posted April 3, 2013 Report Posted April 3, 2013 They should be much louder. That's about all I have. They could sound better, or worse...depends on your taste. But my bet is it will sound better. And from my experiences...louder will result in more flex and probably more air movement. But again, I am no expert. I've just made and used 5 different boxes in my car. The small port probably made it really punchy, where as with a bigger port it won't have quite as much of a punch but will be louder overall. 321slapinbass Posted April 3, 2013 Report Posted April 3, 2013 so your running 600w to 2 12's. if the guys build the new box properly, then I guarantee you it will sound better because the box will be "better". is your car a g6 convertible? if so then there is no way for the sound waves to enter the cabin from the trunk, meaning it probably wont be any louder. 2000 Dodge Durango Subs - (2) SKAR VVX 15 D2's Box - 7.2 ft^3 @ 33hz, 120 in of port Sub amp - Digital Designs M2 @ .5 ohm Mids + Highs - PRV Audio Mids + Highs amp - Hifonics 2000.4 Headunit - Alpine CDE-100 Equalizer - Clarion EQS746 Batteries - Mopar group 27 + (2) C&D 52ah Wiring - 1/0 BIG 3, (2) runs 1/0 Alternator - Singer 250A 147.79 dB @ 35hz - burp - sealed on dash 147.47 dB @ 35hz - music - sealed on dash YOUTUBE: http://www.youtube.com/user/321slapinBass/videos
Holcomb Posted April 3, 2013 Author Report Posted April 3, 2013 It's a sedan and not a convertible. Yea 600rms to 2 12s. It's pretty loud for what I have. Wish there was a meter near me to be metered. And what do you mean it will be "better"? Like define better and what wil happen lol My build: 2007 Pontiac G6 GTP 2 Rockford Fosgate P2D412 in a competition box 2 Rockford P300.1 (bass) Pioneer mids and highs amp Kenwood DDX-418 6.1" touchscreen head Big 3 upgrade interior LEDs and Strobe lights Black Spyder halo projector headlights Remin Carbonfiber dash kit www.youtube.com/fluentsarcasm1
CleanSierra Posted April 3, 2013 Report Posted April 3, 2013 This whole thread is fucking bananas. You've never listed equipment, exact box specs, just generic info. No one will be able to give you any real answers or help with the very hazy info you've given. Port area per foot is subjective to the Xmax of the sub tuning frequency and cone area, so NO ONE can tell you your port area was shy with your old box. Particle board is a no no in building subwoofer enclosures for vehicles. There is no need to meter what you have because 2 12s on 600 Watts is more for just an enjoyable every day system. It's not gonna put up a crazy number and its not intended to. OP, your questions are vague, and no one has the answers you're looking for on what will sound louder. You're the only one that can determine that, as you're the only one that will hear both. Unless you have some friends that best it before and will hear it after. Hit them up and see what they think. Im not the one you want to try to troll. Just a fyi for you.
Holcomb Posted April 4, 2013 Author Report Posted April 4, 2013 Asked a general question wanting a general answer. And I planned on asking my friends. Ad thanks for considering my system as not meter worthy? CleanSierra Posted April 4, 2013 Report Posted April 4, 2013 wasn't meant to be rude, just honest and real. And no, we can't GUESS what your car will meter. A 600 Watt system even with custom box, is likely not to meter over mid 130s. Im not the one you want to try to troll. Just a fyi for you.
