Okay I have a 2002 Chrysler PT Cruiser, and I want to replace the a/c compressor with a second alternator. I currently have a 200a alt in the stock location, and a MLA voltage boost mod. installed, charges @14.6 volts.

After some research, I found someone who had attempted this before. I was told they used a GM small case alt. from a 2003 Trailblazer. However, when looking hard at the alt. in the pic, it just didn't look like a GM alt. Have a look.

So after more research, I believe this alt came from a 01-06 Chrysler Sebring 2.4L. What do you think?

Sebring Alt.

I'm pretty sure they use the exact same plug-ins and everything.

Anyway, no matter what alt was used, my question is this:

Would this alt. from a Chrysler Sebring be a better choice for using as an additional alt. in my Chrysler PT Cruiser than using a Chevy alternator?

Thanks for all help!

do you have pics of the sebring alt and trailblazer alt so we can compare 'em without looking them up? Or maybe go to the local Pull-a-PArt and yank some measurements. that would probably help you out in figuring this shit out too...

from your pic it looks like you have a fair amount of room to play with down there. Prob make whatever you wanted work fine with a lil custom bracket fab. I am sure thats well within your capabilities Purp.

Looks like a Ford alternator, honestly.

it kinda does actually, the way it bolts in like that... like the alts on 4.6l sohc motors...

I thought the same thing, it could be a ford alt. Here I'll put up pics of all of them.

But wouldn't the Sebring alt be best if I can use it, since it came from the same 2.4L Chrysler engine? I know a lot of Mopars are known to be very picky about the PCM controlled alt. being modified. That's why I went with a MLA mod instead of the diode trick...

Anyway here are those pics. First the Sebring alt. same year, same engine as my PT

And Ford 3.0L

But like you said, I got room. And if I need more I can get it. I just really think the Sebring alt would be the best to use, like I said, since it came from the same engine the same year in a different car.

So what do you guys think?

I'd say out of those three that it is the Sebring alt.

Thanks man, yeah I think so too.

I just really think the Sebring alt is the way to go. Only one way to find out for sure....

Sounds like it, PCM control is a bitch and a half. Every time I go to do something to my truck (06 Ram) I realize it is a Chysler when it throws me a curve-ball somewhere along the way.

I'm gonna hate

That trailbrazer alt is a large case alt. Maybe a different year and they used the 2 pin plug? The 2 pin plug Ad series have that X style machining on the front case.

And IMO, since you are adding a second alt, go external regulated and give the PCM the middle finger lol.
