It makes me think of how a fan on small seedlings can increase stem strength and density. It's like low level repetitive trauma. Instead of doing harm it strengthens the body. Much in the same way a shaolin monk will spend an hour thrusting his hands into hot sand, small rocks, and eventually gravel.
