4th order port tuning

Recommended Posts

I have been designing a 4th order for 2 skar zvx 12s I plan on buying soon but I have a question. I have been reading on a thread in here that you want the tuning to be somewhere around 45hz for the ported section. However if I am looking to feel the lows, do I need to tune it lower? I guess my real question is there a way i can find the range of bandwith or hz the subs will sound good at it just bassed on the numbers? Also, based on saying that i want to hit lows, is a 4th order the way to go or should i just do a normal ported box? any help is great.

4th order's are great for lows. 45hz is pretty good for decent lows, but what do you consider low? I believe 45hz will get you down into the high 20hz range, like 28hz 29hz

What ratio are you planning on using for the box? 45 is actually on the lower end of what you would normally tune a bandpass to.

SD, thank for the input. I would have replied earlier, but I was measuring the output of my amp with a yardstick . . .

idk im just used to tuning normal ported boxes like 28hz-32hz but i didnt know how this would compare. the dimensions and ratio thing i get, but the bandwidth and hz part is confusing me a bit.

The ratio will determine your bandwidth. The higher the ratio the smaller the bandwidth, and vise versa.

For most output with ok frequency response the 3:1 will be good. if you want to scare the crap out of people and hit the lows, go with 45Hz and your 3:1 ratio.

I'm in for results.... I love 23 hz personally. After about 50 hz Idc for it as much. I think I'd rather have my sub stage play 20-50 hz like a beast and then have a small 8 or some bad ass mid bass speakers for the rest of the notes because I don't like those upper notes to be head cracking
