  2. From the little bit of research I did, the difference between resistance and impedance is that resistance has just a magnitude while impedance has magnitude and phase because it is measured in an AC circuit.
  3. Tuning lower won't make the "high bass" sound better. my brother has the same subs and its tuned 32 and it sounds a little better idk. im not a expert but some high notes sound a little cleaner on the 32hz thats all im saying. just the overall sq i would say is better Most likely the car is causing that effect to happen or the box isnt built to spec.
  4. Guys stop! its HIS car! he can do whatever he wants with it and does not need, or want, your opinion; he would have asked if did.
  5. My dad used to own a custom cabinet shop and his favorite glue was titebond II he did not like the 3 at all. The only glue that he used and did better was a liquid urethane glue. Super expensive stuff. But titebond II is the way to go in this application.
  6. It also shows 84.5 too. Looks like a very solid line-up! Can't wait to get my hand on one of those amps!
  7. Check out my sig, I did two in a 4th order but anyways yes .75 is the way to go. Do not skimp out on port area though. when its all said and done the box can be about 1.4 cubes gross for one but about 2.3 with two because of the port.
  8. I have 2 sa8v2s in a 4th order and here are my mistakes that may answer some of your questions. 1. not enough port area. i had 50 sq in which was half my cone area. it would be best to mulitply that by your xmax to get a better estimate of what your port area should be. 2. ratio was slightly too big. it was about a 3:1 ratio. if i could do it again i would do a 2:1. any questions let me know i smashed my finger at a party so its kinda hard to type lol
  9. Chris, would you be interested in helping me design a t-line for an X-18? //end thread jack lol
  10. I can't stand it when I spend thousands of dollars on car audio in my mind.

Yeah. I spent... shit, close to about 5-6 grand on audio, about 20 grand in performance mods all in the mind. Actually haven't spent a single cent. Not in the past few weeks at least.

I don't like thinking about it haha.

  11. I used to think most car audio shops could perform a decent install but am i glad i found this forum. cant say thanks enough!

only you will do a good job on your install.. shops are just looking for the quick buck and the faster they get you out the better. if you want quality its going to cost you.. not all shops are bad

  12. From just reading it looks like within the next 30 days
  13. you will have to increase your box volume to end up with the net volume of 0.5 that will be after all displacements. the port is a displacement and if youre using torres, it will calculate it for you. even though its a shallow mount it will take up quite a bit of space in a ported box. for that sub and what it seems like you are trying to acheive in size, just do a sealed box.
  14. I'm pretty sure what he was trying to say was it wouldnt be worth the effort of doing a 4th. because all the advantages a 4th has will be taken away when you design it for an sq setup. And if you add other woofers its just that more expensive and complicated to work with. edit grammer
  15. thank you for pointing this out. i have never dealt with that much sq and am glad you said something.
  16. from the research and experience i have, it would all depend on the application of what you are trying to do. the ratio basically just changes the gain factor of the box at a particular frequency. that's why you'll hear a 3:1 is more peaky than an 2:1. 2:1 is used for most general sub applications. Edit: the reason is for the frequency response of the box tends to be somewhat the smoothest.
  17. Since your doing an sq build i would not use a 3:1 ratio. i would probably start with a 1.5:1 or a 2:1 with a tuning of about 40-43Hz.
  18. I'm glad i saw this i would be more than happy to help you design one for them. I'll tell what ive learned and what would be better than my set up. honestly the only reason i did a 4th was because it was the coolest looking box i could make and still get the results i wanted. its all about your goals and what you have in mind that will decide what box is best, but im sure you know that.
  19. I bet those X-8s would be bad in my 4th order. would be a great excuse to buy another amp!
