KyleRhone Posted May 13, 2013 Report Posted May 13, 2013 I am starting to attend car shows and meets and I would like to be able to keep my stereo on to play music videos (at a very low volume) to add a little visual aspect. But! I do not want to leave my keys in the vehicle just for my own personal peace of mind, although I don't think I really have to worry about someone trying to steal my car at this kind of event. Is there a way I can maybe modify a remote start system to keep just the ignition on? Or maybe I could run a lead from my battery to a switch and then into the ignition wire? I do not want the typical remote start method of keeping the engine running and I am not worried about batteries draining, as the volume will be at an almost inaudible level and the vehicle wont be left unattended for more than maybe half an hour at a time. I would consider myself moderate when it comes to electronics. I have wired my own and all my friends systems, including decks, amps, speakers, CB radios, PA systems and lighting. My work has also been said to match the quality of local "professional" audio shops. I just have yet to expiriment with the factory wiring harness. I've already had someone tell me i'm not smart enough or capable of accomplishing this. I don't expect it from SMD forum members but please help me instead of put me down. I'm asking what my options are for making this work, Not what you think I can or can't accomplish. What are my options. Please explain with detail. As I lay rubber down the street, I pray for traction I can keep, but if I spin and begin to slide, please dear God protect my ride.
OrangeJuiced Posted May 13, 2013 Report Posted May 13, 2013 You can make a "show switch". All you need to do is supply 12 volts to the "ign" wire on your deck. Do some research on how to do that. Good luck! never thought about going straight to the deck, I'd assume you'd tap straight into the deck's power lead (yellow) and the relay will control the switch between a 12 volt powered switch and the ignition? tried a few different searches on google and couldn't find anything As I lay rubber down the street, I pray for traction I can keep, but if I spin and begin to slide, please dear God protect my ride.
OrangeJuiced Posted May 13, 2013 Report Posted May 13, 2013 When the relay recieves 12 volts from your switch, it will send 12 volts to the ign of your deck. Basically the relay is being used as an on/off switch. You could use just a standard on/off switch to the ign, but I recommend a relay because you could still use the ign from your wire harness to activate the relay. Basically, you will have 2 plugs on one pin (I think 87?). One plug will be the ign from your wire harness, the other plug will be from your switch. That way you can turn the switch on, when the car is off and still utilize the stereo. Sorry, I'm not the best at explaining over text. But hopefully you catch the drift. Yes I did make this thread but when I got on my computer I saw the wiring section and realised this post should have went here. I appologize to the the whole SMD community for the double post and I thank everyone who helped me. Came to the conclusion to use a double throw switch in between the wire harness As I lay rubber down the street, I pray for traction I can keep, but if I spin and begin to slide, please dear God protect my ride.
