Aidan Hansen Posted May 17, 2013 Report Posted May 17, 2013 So if I got a Mechman that's 270A and run however many inputs on the amp I need, like if it has two sets of power inputs I'll run both sets of runs, and a new hood battery, and possibly a second battery in the trunk, would that be a good set up? Big 3 of course too. All in sky high 1/0 gauge. If you go with their ofc I'd say yes you'll be fine. IMO if using cca I'd use dual inputs. Not saying you need them just will help your amp allot if you do. ^Vehicle log to come soon for this.^

bSems Posted May 22, 2013 Report Posted May 22, 2013 P(W) = V(V) × I(A) power in watts is = to volts times amps so re-arrange it to power/volts=amps 3500(watts)/(14.6Volts)= 239.73 AMP so to answer your question, a 250 amp alternator will be sufficient, yessir EDIT: unless you're running at 16V, which would be crazy. but if you were, just plug it into that equation, which would be : (since the site says it does 5300 @ 1 ohm on 16V) you would do: 5300/16 = 331.25amps.
bSems Posted May 22, 2013 Report Posted May 22, 2013 long story short since my last post shit itself. A great % for amp efficieny is 80%. So if you want 3500 watts... then you supply a system that capable of giving 4375 watts. Divide taht by the voltage you sit at WHILE playing your music at your normal listening level. I say use 13.XX volts to give yourself playing room to add amps in the future. 4375/13=336A. This is your target amperage bank.. whether you use alts or batteries to get there, is all your choice.
