redbaron80 Posted February 17, 2008 Report Share Posted February 17, 2008 Me and James were metering with the TL tonight and I had been jamming for at least a good half hour, pretty hard too. Then the fuse on my TOP amp blew and I had a shower of sparks. I replaced the 300 amp fuse. I turned on the radio and made sure the volume was at 0. Then i turned my switch for the amps on, and I heard a noise and then saw SMOKE some from my one TOP amp. I'm gonna call Rockford on Tuesday and see what they can do for me. I am not sure what went wrong. These amps have done GREAT for the 1.5 years I have had them, perhaps I just pushed them WAY too hard tonight. Regardless, I was expecting the PROTECT to turn on, oh well. Wish me luck on fix from them, I'll keep everybody posted. p.s. If anything good came out of this, I WAS holding a 150.X for about 1.5 minutes before it BLEW Christian Quote Official Scores at the Dash. and YES. Posted February 17, 2008 Report Share Posted February 17, 2008 wear and tear is hard on an amp. even after a 150+ at 1 1/2 minute run. the amp should have not powered on if it got too hot. what is the protection for then? we had fun even though it MIGHT cost you $454 bucks. i know now that i can bassrace a 146.2. like kimo told me. Only thing that coulda happened is u started to lose voltage bad, or it just blew. These amps are DAMN SOLID. Very suprising to hear this. I know u know your install so not even a ? on that. Even a new amp can blow, it happens, but damn if that thing is a refurb it obviously has a history of problems.....it doesnt help when you have 7,000 watts and not enough electrical for it though. No, your single HO alt isnt enough especially when stressing the system to the limits IMO. How many batteries do you have? i feel you on the protect not kickin in though....it should have.
