Yea, my friend came to me when he got his subs.

You could buy a DMM ($10-20) at Lowes, Home Depot, Ace Hardware, and/or Radioshack. Set the gain with that. I'm not sure what it should be set to but I'm sure someone else who's reading this can help you out.

You can also set the gain by ear. Start a 50hz tone or whatever, turn the head-unit up to 3/4 volume (make sure amp gain is all way down too), turn the amp gain up, once you hear distortion, back off on the gain. Do you use the Kicker bass knob also?

OT: When I was living with my dad, he just cranked the gains all the way up... ugh.. I thought it was the LPF (LOL!!!) so I turned it all the way down, bass sounded a lot cleaner.

bass boost can be used but only use it on the knob or amp, not both

u are causing major distortion issues.... i have never once used or seen a system that needed 100% gain, 75% at most for 2v headunits like alpine

Sometimes, you can't hear distortion, although, the amp is more then likely clipping (but not audible) and sending a clipped signal will make the sub VC heat up faster and the amp tries to put out power it can't produce, overheats, and blows. Usually, the fuse would prevent that from happening, I don't know exactly though.

ur preamp voltage should be listed in the manual

u should set ur crossover to about 80 hz

o just found out 5volts for my head unit sub preoutput

ok i got a DMM but do not know where to put it so i can set my gain i got

dcv/500/200/20/2000m/200m

then i got ohms/2000k/200k/20k/2000/200

dca/200m/20m/2000u/200u

acv/500/200

and do i have to play a tone to set it ????? b/c i can not seem to find a please to download it right off of 50hz tone

and do i test at the speaker terminals of the amp and do i have to have the subwoofers hooked up????
