_Nomad_
I just got my new DD-1 and I have to admit, I'm a total noob with it.I'll give you my setup so you have all the info for my question.I have a Kenwood DNX890HD head unit that goes to a JBL MS-8 signal processor which goes to a JL Audio HD900/5 amp. Now, I "think" I understand how to set the HU and amp, with emphasis on the word, think. But how do I set the gain with the JBL MS-8? I know you have to gain set every component in line from the HU to the amp. I saw the video on setting gains on a line driver, but that is different from a MS-8.Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.
CortezDTV
Ms8 is a max output voltage of 2.8v So set h/u with dd1 then do the jbl setup then sent the amps gain do jbl setup again to make sure And set gains one more time for adjustment That's how I would do it Quote SCSB Santa Cruz Speaker Box Build logs: Daily Driver Lemon Marquis 2 american bass 750.1s 350.4 on 14 focal 6.5s sq 945 on 4 hertz tweeters Mystery subs http://www.stevemead...__fromsearch__1 The Mustang 'dubbed' Shirley the project from bullet holes to badass http://www.stevemead...cond-skin-time/
SnowDrifter
-0db tone on HU. Then -0db tone on processor. Then whatever track you need for the sub amp Quote ~~~~~~~~SAY NO TO PHOTOBUCKET~~~~~~~~ Snow's DD-1 tracks here: https://www.stevemeadedesigns.com/board/topic/167433-snows-dd-1-tracks/ My take on OFC vs CCA: https://www.stevemeadedesigns.com/board/topic/110381-things-that-piss-you-off-in-the-car-audio-world/?do=findComment&comment=2461444

Then do a MS-8 system setup without the gains set on the amp yet. Then I would set the gains on the amp with the DD-1. Do another MS-8 system setup. Then use the DD-1 to set the gains on the HU and amp again? Is that right?

Then whatever track you need for the sub amp Ok, so I use the -0db tone for HU, but how do I use it on the MS-8? It has no gain knobs or anything. See, I told ya I was a noob. CortezDTV
The ms8 will basically do its own setup So u just have it do its thing then set the gain on the amp do it again so it gets the right measurements then set gain again Quote SCSB Santa Cruz Speaker Box Build logs: Daily Driver Lemon Marquis 2 american bass 750.1s 350.4 on 14 focal 6.5s sq 945 on 4 hertz tweeters Mystery subs http://www.stevemead...__fromsearch__1 The Mustang 'dubbed' Shirley the project from bullet holes to badass http://www.stevemead...cond-skin-time/

CortezDTV
Ya That is probably the right way Quote SCSB Santa Cruz Speaker Box Build logs: Daily Driver Lemon Marquis 2 american bass 750.1s 350.4 on 14 focal 6.5s sq 945 on 4 hertz tweeters Mystery subs http://www.stevemead...__fromsearch__1 The Mustang 'dubbed' Shirley the project from bullet holes to badass http://www.stevemead...cond-skin-time/
_Nomad_
I have one more question. On the instructions of the DD-1 it says to turn the gains all the way down and the crossovers all the way up in order to perform the gain settings. If I'm using the MS-8, do I just disable the crossovers on the amp since the MS-8 will be handling that job, or do I still enable the crossovers on the amp and proceed the way the instructions said to? Thanks for this help guys! Edited May 21, 2013 by _Nomad_
