Homemade Super-Neo Woofer: THE CHEVELLE RESTORATION IS DONE, dampener recommendations??

Your coil needs to be ceneterd in your top plate is what i think Brian is saying.

That is something you dont want to be guessing on really.

When did centering the coil become the topic here? Lol, I never said anything about guessing on that right now, this is all about spider adjustment

Im talking about being centered up and down... Not side to side.

Oh, well that's why I already have the spider so low. That's the first thing I measured it to. So as it sits, that would be the coil in the middle of the gap.

Next time that definitely needs some clarification, or saying middle of the gap. lol

Fucking love Alan you goddamned fucking super nerd lol

When Alan uses big words I don't understand

It's warming up enough that the donut-punching cyclist douchenozzles are getting their two wheeled fagmobiles out.

Everytime I see a guy driving a mini cooper I cant help but think he loves cock & (2/29/16)-My wife just bitched at me about throwing out things we don't really use. My response of well we don't really use your vagina so should we throw that out was evidently not the right response. I had to leave the room.

I missed Alan.

If you going to be rude to me and try and make me look like the fool, how about asking me in a PM first, that way there's no misunderstandings which take up more of the thread and just flat out annoy me, and lead to useless arguments about things which are totally irrelevant at the moment?? Can we try that from now on?

I like how you got from me saying just as a reminder that guessing was kind of already a large part of the build as a whole, to that being the same thing as calling you wrong.

Nothing I said warranted as cocky, and I definitely don't have a clue as to why you got so mad about it.

If you don't want to help because I don't instantly take everything you say as my ideology, don't. I didn't force you to answer. How about when it's your project, with your money, your time, your work, and your effort, then you can do it however you want. This thing is largely an experimental fun project for me to learn and enjoy, if it's not perfect the first time I"m fine with that, you don't have to be, because it's not your project. I'm not trying to say I know everything and won't listen to any advice, I'm just tired of everyone needlessly second guessing me every step of the way because they haven't read or just don't agree with the methodology. If that's the case, build your own neo woofer from scratch, I'm not stopping you or saying you couldn't do it better, I honestly could care less. I'm having fun and I'm not in this as a competition to build the best woofer ever and show up all the manufacturers or something, I don't know why you might have gotten that idea.

For now though, I appreciate people who gave given me some great ideas and awesome feedback, and asked any questions that you were unsure about, I'm sure I would have been stuck without many of you, so thank you. I'm sorry if at the time I don't seem receptive of suggestions, but just know that I usually am, and if you think I'm going about something wrong, you could just tell me why first; calmly is preferred.

yea i guess Im wrong. I never built a woofer...

Trying to help you so you understand on how to do it and not guess if you would take the time to measure said items to get you set on where to position it...

but please enlighten me undistributed woofer builder! Im sure maybe you can tell every woofer manufacture how to build their subs better too.

This is why Im a dick. because cocky punk ass kids think they know all, but dont know shit and think they are right.

Maybe this will sooth your mind:

Not that I know shit about building..but the spider looks really close to me..in my mind that coils gonna get hot..you wouldnt want spiders touching it...also that cose wont the spider smash into the bottom of the basket or top plate before the coil bottoms? How is clearance there? When I had the little monster 8" built from a sa12 motor that was the first thing that failed...the basket needed a taller spacer and the spider actually failed at the triple joint from hitting the top plate...with another 1/4" or 1/8" inch that thing would have handled some more power and never had a problem

So thats my input...I would space the basket more, measure and measure again and hopefully it all works 100% and you dont rebuild again.

IDK why you guys seem like your mad.. both of your initial posts seem to be somewhat playful/sarcastic/poking fun and relevant... but maybe I'm just in a different mood when reading them.. you know that's the largest problem with text...its not speech..no emotion can be "implied" sarcastic tones can be achieved...but the actual meaning is only how the reader interprets it and that's largely based on their mood. I would guess that is the basis for a large amount of arguments on here.. cool your jets everyone.

Yeah, that's what I've already decided on, I had forgot about spacing the basket, that's what fox re-mentioned above, then I derped about asking about it because of finals week, I was just zoned out of my mind, and I haven't slept more than 3 hours in the last 2 days for some reason.

And I was only mad because I don't see why I deserved to get berated like that, there was nothing hostile in my reply to his first post. Voice or text, nobody can interpret that as hostile.

Im new to the whole mechanical specs of woofers but as the others have said it seems like the windings are very high and close to the spider. wouldn't that give it a high xmax or is that more in relation to the distance from the top plate?

you're asking more xmax by being closer to the windings?

You going to try and work any cooling into the spacer? Some tapered holes maybe? Idk I keep thinking of different ways to keep it cool and cuts you could make on the spacer to force air in/out.

I want to, kind of like the spacer sundown uses. But mine would have to be much thicker so I'll have to make it myself probably.
