Homemade Super-Neo Woofer: THE CHEVELLE RESTORATION IS DONE, dampener recommendations??

In all seriousness, coming from an avid overthinker, your best bet is to put it together. stop weighing all the outcomes. thinking like this will get you no where. I know from experience.

Just connect all the parts and play it. Adjust from there based on issues you encounter. Nothing is perfect and certainly your first attempt won't be but that shouldn't deter you from rocking that shit. With as much money as you have invested in it you should want it to be perfect, I get that, but theory and thinking only do so much when no real world data is given.

Hell for all we know the motor might have a terrible flux field which causes the woofer to barely move. The longer you wait the more crushing any failures will be.

use clamps to hold things in place and give it a test.

edit

also, slap a spacer on it and try, if it doesnt work just scrape it off... dont break your fingers.

Any time you have have a power wire next to your frame put some rubber hosing (or cut up an innertube) around it. The wire is bound to wiggle (due to driving or flex) and the casing will eventually wear through.

Why are you using 2 different size spiders?

I don't know of that will work

The 8" spiders are very stiff linear roll style, they will also be attached at a different position than the 9" spider. I'm hoping this will help linearity. If you think of a triple joint and the way it attaches to the voice coil, you can see why with my woofer I don't want to risk the single-middle attachment because it's not the most stable design.

Imagine holding a long tube in the middle in between your thumb and index finger, it would be difficult to keep it perfectly straight, but if you could hold it with your other fingers on the other hand, it would be much easier. The problem is probably not a big deal in most woofers, but considering my tight gap I'm hoping this will help keep it aligned.

Fucking love Alan you goddamned fucking super nerd lol

When Alan uses big words I don't understand

It's warming up enough that the donut-punching cyclist douchenozzles are getting their two wheeled fagmobiles out.

Everytime I see a guy driving a mini cooper I cant help but think he loves cock & (2/29/16)-My wife just bitched at me about throwing out things we don't really use. My response of well we don't really use your vagina so should we throw that out was evidently not the right response. I had to leave the room.

I missed Alan.

RIP 5/29/15 - I love you son.

You've got a point, but this isn't just about what could be better type of deal, this is just to be sure it works before I glue $150 worth of parts down. That's more of the issue here, is the funds, and how to save now vs later. But I still appreciate the input, I'll try to not ponder so much so that I can just get it done.

Yeah I've been trying to work that out over the last few days, I'm either going to need gaskets to perfectly hold some stuff down, or buy like 50 more small clamps haha

And when you say spacer, what do you mean exactly, because I'm confused by the scrape it off part? I don't plan on having a magnetic material as my spacer if that's what you're thinking? Or is it something else?

I was suggesting using metal as the spacer.

No reason not to really, or make two. One magnetic and one not, try both.

Oh, ok.

Well I basically just added in a long explanation in one of the emails and Jacob was able to answer everything very well.

But the plan would probably be 2 things to get the desired height because I want to increase the top plate, more height, and then add a cooling ring spacer for the last bit of bump and to obviously help with cooling lol.

finally got the the end of this. definitely tuned in. woofer looks great loving it man

once you get a speaker moving so hard that its possible to make tinsels slap, you are already kissing "SQ" goodbye. :D

Don't get me wrong, as I smoke Marlboro Reds, but if I saw one more kid with that smug-ass look (Look at me I'm smoking indoors) on their face, I was going to shove that thing so far up someone's ass that they'd look like a hillbilly trying to understand quantitative prediction theorem.

You know why people are ass holes online but not in person? Because getting punched in the mouth hurts.

Alright, so yesterday I was gonna surprise you guys with a video of something very worthy of being considered neo-woofer-p0rn, but of course because of the dual 2 coil I was using, my little sony stereo would go into protect every time, then my amp downstairs on the home theatre sub blew the fuse then I plugged it in @4ohm and nothing else could make it move so I was really pissed that of all the days I didn't have my car to just use the amp, it that yesterday. I'm getting my car back now, but I am going back to school because I have class until 8pm................................................................

So I'll still make the video tonight, but it'll be at night. Just saying, it'll be worth it.

I promise.
