Why not use a recone from fi?

If you want a 4 inch coil use the recone for the SP4 and you'll have a cone and surround to go with the spiders.

The only thing you would have to build is the basket and motor.

Why do you want a 8inch spider for a 4 inch coil? It won't give you a lot of distortion free excursion. (atleast i think that's what you want, a lot of excursion)

Thinking is the root of all problems...

Hell no I don't want excursion! Lol, man that sounds like the anti-audible, but It's true at the moment. Since the goal is to keep as much coil in the magnetic flux, while the coil reaches both ends of the maximum without leaving the flux, that's why 1"-1.5" excursion is pretty common. Once you start to get over 2" you have to engineer and construct the mechanics differently to compensate. But that's what DC does, because they have massive xmax, but still pound out huge numbers, because of the design changes, and huge magnets.

Did a rough basket design on sketchup, it's not the official one. It was mainly for an idea I had last night, but It's still the basic thing I had intended on going for....

I dont know much about building subs but that seems like a pretty big gap to me, especially with all the open space between magnets it seems like it would have good cooling without such a large gap.

But there might be other reasons for a big gap that I dont know about.

Hey man to get the coil to handle 2k rms you need to research what kind of high temp glue these companies are using on the voice coil. That is a key factor in how much power a woofer can handle . I want to know what glue sp audio is using on the 8 and 9 k rms subs . Put that on a 2k rms sub and you would have a very reliable woofer

IF YOU WOULD READDDD!!!! LOL jk jk jk. No, but really........... I SAID it was my double voicecoil magnet design, but the same basic idea I'm going to be using, but fixed to hold the 3" OR 4" coil properly...................

that neodymium ain't cheap. lol. I wonder how much it would cost to build this motor, I guesstimated about $600 in magnets, maybe $150-$200 for the plates, another $100 for the custom support ring? not cheap lol

I could see this costing around $1,000 after taxes for a quality material built one..........
