I'd do it. Little shock for a fraction of a second before the breaker blows

Consider the path to ground. Through the metal ring, through neutral, into the earth.

Compared to going through you: Into the ring, down your body, through feet, into floor, into wood nailed to wood, through crossbeams, into concrete, then to earth. I think you'd get shocked more by your own capacitance than anything else

Consider the heat generated by the ring... Could also put a couple diodes inside to make the path to ground detour through the body.

Not going to be much heat. Not with modern breakers anyway. Pop an outlet out and short the wires with a screwdriver, then touch the screwdriver. It's not notably warm. Makes a flash and a pop then the breaker blows
