Custom box, 4 - 15" Tahoe...HELP

Hello, gonna start my install soon (and thread to go with it). Let me start with the fact that i plan on my setup being for daily listening, ground pounding, etc. Listening to a wide variety of music but mainly Rap/bass songs so like every other bass head out there i need to hit the lows real nicely. Of course i want it to be loudest it can be for listening to music (SPL) etc. i truly don't know enough to even guess what kind of frequency tune i would be shooting for so i need help in designing a box.

Requirements, ported, not sealed,

dimensions

H - 26" outside diameter, no less please

W - 48" outside diameter, no more

L - 37" outside diameter absolute max but would like to shave some size off of this spec if any please.

I am open to different opinions and designs. Slot ports, round ports etc. I plan on doing at least double baffle if not triple and double on all other sides thus why i posted outside dimensions. Whatever sounds heavenly for my personal preference of listening. This thing will NEVER see a competition of any kind. Stats about what it's going in is listed in my sig. (if you are on phone i will repost below in this post). If voltage drops too low after install I will add more to avoid that from happening. Any questions please feel free to ask. Here is a suggestion, hope you have the electrical to support this, check the notes below the pic:

Enclosure Specifications:

Fb = 33.8 Hz
Vb = 14 ft^3

External Height = 23.625 in
External Width = 48 in
External Depth = 31 in

Port Width = 32 in
Port Height = 6 in

Cut Sheet List:

* All Dimensions in Inches.
* Wood Thickness is 3/4 for all Parts.

External Enclosure Parts:

2 x Top & Bottom (3 parts) = 48 x 31

Left & Right Sides = 29 1/2 x 21 3/8

Front & Back = 48 x 21 3/8

L Port Internal Assembly Parts:

Front to Back = 17 x 33 1/2

Port Left Side Assembly:
17 x 6
Port Right Side Assembly:
17 x 6

Assembly guide (generic dimensions):

Important notes:

- All boxes built outside the vehicle need to fit in their way in not just have the right dimensions.

- The port needs 6" of free airspace in front of it for proper operation.

- Setting your amp subsonic filter to 28Hz is suggested.

Thanks Joe, really appreciate it. Port facing front or back? Baffle is double layered but rest is single layered? Is that a support in the center of the port as well? I believe facing back would be closer to full potential than facing forward, I'll have to have like 8 layers of deadener on the hatch, LMAO. Looks as though there is no places where adding angles would help at all? Also FYI I plan on using MDF for everything if that matters at all. 33.8 Hz for daily listening for loud bass, woot!

Ok I will try to answer in order:

1) Port is racing back and should stay at least 6" away from the rear gate.

2) Yes the baffle is double layer.

3) There is a brace (1 1/2" wooden dowel rod) that goes from the center of the port to the baffle AND it needs that brace inside the port as well which is also at the center of the port and is made with 3/4" MDF.

4) 45s are not necessary in your case so never mind about them, I do recommend rounding the inner edges of the port at both ends at least by sanding.

5) MDF is great and inexpensive, people use birch wood but is really more expensive.

Anyways if that hatch likes rattling it will need the damping, I will also say that the box is a little taller than I would like to see, if the box can be wider or deeper let me know. Any other questions let me know.

Sounds great Joe X, All questions answered! Thanks SO SO much, really appreciate the help. Yea, either way i have lots of Dynamat to go in so i will for sure multi layer the crap out of the hatch. I had 2 - 18" SOLO X in a similar box with slot port facing back and I ended up putting would sheeting against the back doors in a Astro van so it would be solid enough for all the air flow coming at it but I don't plan on doing it here, but no big deal. As far as height of the box, Sorry, i completely understand, these back seats in Tahoe are so dang tall, there is a lot of height in the rear but not much depth/length. 48" width is just between the wheel wells at the floor, otherwise there is room to the sides too. Anyways, I'm happy with the results and will take many pics. once i start my big log. I will build as close to spec as absolute possible. I see what you did with the depth trying to allow for the 6" of space outside of port, I'll be sure to make sure to get the space required. The inside will be glassed for sealing.

If you'd like some help in designing an enclosure your best bet would be to make a new post.. List your max dimensions, music listening preferences, vehicle type, etc etc. Im sure someone will chime in and help out at least with some suggestions for ya.
