k3n12ock Posted June 21, 2013 Report Posted June 21, 2013 I believe it has to do with your ECU and rpms your car is at during each situation. My xb's voltage, when stopped (braking) and parked, dips to mid 12s since it idles around 600-700rpm. If at a stop light, voltage drops like mentioned but jumps back up as soon as I hit the gas. If I'm idle and bangin on my music, it jumps to low 13s and stays there, not sure if the ECU knows it's drawing more amps which makes the alt spin more (guessing). This is with a 200a Excessive Amperage. Then again, my voltage maxes at around 13.8 - 13.9, on a good day so you can see, I am losing just a little over 1v of voltage. This is with a BC3500, Shuriken bt80 under the hood and 2 deka 8a31s, 1/0 power/ground/big3. Just my experience so you know it might just be your car. 05 xB - (2) EVIL 18s - (2) BC3500s - NO WALL Channel 1: http://www.youtube.com/k3n12ock Channel 2: http://www.youtube.com/MrK3n12ock2
RooTxBeeR Posted June 21, 2013 Report Posted June 21, 2013 Same thing is with my car. If I'm sitting at a light, not idling or reving , I can't hold a good voltage On 11/20/2012 at 8:54 PM, AMI CUSTOMS said: Turned mine up today at a light, guy next to me his steering wheel started moving and he looked over at me like I was a magician lol. menesesJr Posted June 22, 2013 Author Report Posted June 22, 2013 If i do decide to go with the smaller pulley Can I change out the pulley my self or is this something I should go get it done? And how soon after will I see the damage done do to the increase of rpms??

And how soon after will I see the damage done do to the increase of rpms?? you could probably do it yourself. its just a big nut holding the pulley on. as far as the damage. no way to tell really. sorta depends on the quality of parts used. like the absolutely worst case scenario, alt might (big might) "disintegrate" or maybe catch on fire

He swears by his shit, he said the alt can handle it and more.so he offered to swap the pulley for me free labor just charged me for the part only. really cool guy
Tnop Posted June 22, 2013 Report Posted June 22, 2013 I have the same problem my car drops from 15.3 volts to 12.1 volts in a matter or seconds.
SGTSKIP Posted June 22, 2013 Report Posted June 22, 2013 Try the smaller pully and get a stinger volt meter, shows what your really going Skip Does this smell funny to you? Its your sister
Tnop Posted June 22, 2013 Report Posted June 22, 2013 Try the smaller pully and get a stinger volt meter, shows what your really going Skip I have a stinger volt meter already. I will have to try a smaller pully but it will be a hell of a task to get that alternator out.

When u do put the smaller pulley keep in mind the belt.....luckily the tensioning on my car was good enough to keep the belt tight.... So if that's not the case for ur car u might have to also get a size smaller belt
