aztecducky Posted June 23, 2013 Report Posted June 23, 2013 ok, so I currently have two kicker L7 15s running off a Quantum Audio QCA3000d (3000w peak)however, the box that they are in (already HUGE for my small trunk) is not giving them enough cubes as it is only 40x20x17 inches and has two slot ports (one for each sub, tuned around 50-55hz) the subs are not sharing airspace or port space in the current box my question is, would i be better off 1) keeping my setup as it is (i know this one isn't the good option) 2) building a custom box for the two of them (it would be about the same size) with one port and have them sharing airspace or 3) building a box (again about the same size) for only one of them (so it could get optimum airspace) and selling the second sub? the two custom boxes would have a slot/square port tuned to about 40hz i am in a wagon so it's not in a sealed trunk any feedback is appreciated, but buying other subs isn't an option right now. Thanks! Robert
DylanBunch Posted June 23, 2013 Report Posted June 23, 2013 Dude that box is small for 1. I'd sell one and port the other in a proper box. Also, what music do you listen to? Cause being tuned to 50-55hz is super high. Try 35-40 unless you like decaf. If you post the max dimensions, a guy on here named joe x could post a good design for 1 15 or if not him I can probably post something although it wont be as good as a joe x box 2006 Ford Explorer 2 Team AA/Sundown 15s 6th order Ct Sounds 7k 4 PRV Mr500 8s Rockford p1000-2 Team Subsonic Lows
aztecducky Posted June 23, 2013 Author Report Posted June 23, 2013 yeah, i know it's a small box. i listen to mostly electronic music and alternative (red hot chili peppers and stuff). the box was tuned that high when i bought it with the subs, i would like it tuned 35-40 hzand yeah that's almost the max dimensions anyways, max would be about 40x20x24, but one of the sides (40x20) would have to be slanted a little bit to fit against the back of the back seats
john253a Posted June 23, 2013 Report Posted June 23, 2013 You have a wagon and only 20high and 24deep You'll want to wall them to get the most out of them I like to keep the port small 6net ea 80sq" of port at 37hz just seems to get theis to slam With the music u lesion to you could go higher but I don't like over 40-42 as you'll loose to much low end and be less musical Drop a pice of string with a nut or something with some weight (plumbon) down from the back of back seat and measure from where it touches the floor to the base of back seat Then you'll have the measurement for the angle I like to keep it straight as that a good place to put amps But if you need the space then you need it You'll def have to use more height and depth as your only got 9.2gross there You will get away with it but more would be better So idd measure above the wheel arches and even look at aero ports
aztecducky Posted June 24, 2013 Author Report Posted June 24, 2013 yeah, i could maybe go a little higher, but i don't want it obstructing my view... and it's a 2003 jetta wagon (it's a small car lol) so 24 deep is pushing it... you're right about not using the angle though, for the amp. however, i'm not looking to compete or anything, i just want a nice loud system (for daily use), but i don't want to get rid of one to have the perfect airspace if it won't be as loud as 2 with the same airspace. also, i'm not looking to do anything crazy (like walls or anything like that.aero ports seem like a must for my situation, thanks!
john253a Posted June 24, 2013 Report Posted June 24, 2013 So 24" is at the rear wall If so sub and port need to be up
john253a Posted June 24, 2013 Report Posted June 24, 2013 if you do 40x 22h x 24d (double baffle top) sub up, port up with 106sq" of port youll have 7.8net @ 37hz port 22.5x 4.75x 10.5L if you were to only use one would you get more or less output, im not sure, but i was happy with my single in 7net 90sq" port,
Beanz Posted June 24, 2013 Report Posted June 24, 2013 Sell both and get two twelves in a proper box for them and you'll be happy That's why they don't deliver. Yer ass better go sit along the side of the road and wait. You can't expect them to travel up some dirt road in a hick / back woods town. Thats how horror movies start I explain things very simply and use analogies in terms of Pickles, and grape drink, pool noodles and jackhammers...if you can't put 2 and 2 together there man, There simply is not much more I can do.
john253a Posted June 24, 2013 Report Posted June 24, 2013 2x 12 will work better in that space, but isn't always an option you can also invert the subs and get an extra 0.5 cuft
aztecducky Posted June 24, 2013 Author Report Posted June 24, 2013 ok, it looks like i'm going to do john's setup, i will make enough space for two subs and a block off plate so i can decide if one is better than 2 in that airspace.
