in case you still confused I have one in my setup

85-Positive trigger Remote Wire from head Unit

87-Fused with a 5amp fuse from battery 12 volt + ( optional ) but id rather this blow and kill all my devices first just in case.

86 is ground

30- Run this to a mini distribution block it will output constant 12 volts + when on to any device needing remote turn on and its also 12 volts like i said so it will power your fans.

Your best bet is to get the deluxe kit here:

http://www.ceautoelectricsupply.com/turnonrelaykits.html

It has almost everything you need and you can see the diode in the center of the relay. the diode is there for protection against "spikes".

The "spike" occurs when the current to the coil is suddenly turned off. The magnetic field around the coil collapses, which "tries" to keep the current flowing in the same direction as it was when it was powered. This can cause very high peak reverse voltages unless there is a reverse-EMF diode (sometimes called a "flywheel" diode) installed. The diode provides a path for current back through the diode.

I've gotten away with no diode for many years too with no issue. just wanted to point it out though since I'm always preaching there's getting it done and getting it done right. And I know someone would chime in and say, "Hey your drawing has no diode!" lol
