brent379 Posted July 11, 2013 Author Report Posted July 11, 2013 That's another option! Just involves cutting lol
brent379 Posted July 12, 2013 Author Report Posted July 12, 2013 ok so I turned the box.... made a noticeable difference on some songs and on others I don't think I benefited from it....the lows seem to be a little better but that's about it.....idk. maybe I am used it already and just want more. I guess since its not hurting my chest yet its not enough. sooooo back to the drawing board we go. anyone got any ideas???
bbeljefe Posted July 12, 2013 Report Posted July 12, 2013 If you want it louder, tune it at about 45 hz. It'll be loud then and it will allow more room in the trunk space. Or build a 4th order tuned at 45. That will be stupid loud but won't do much below 35 hz. Or, you could ditch two woofers and do a sixth tuned at 20 & 60 or 25 and 75. You'll be way loud at tuning but you'll probably be -1 to -2 db down through the forties. But... it WILL be loud and, you can flatten out the higher peak with the crossover. brent379 Posted July 12, 2013 Author Report Posted July 12, 2013 I'm really contemplating ditching two woofers for now. I want the cone area but I just don't think I got the room to make it work like it should. I have a pretty good low end response right now as it is and don't want to give that up! I got a pretty good understanding of what goes into 4th orders but I'm completely lost on 6th orders lol how do you even go about designing a 6th??
bbeljefe Posted July 12, 2013 Report Posted July 12, 2013 I use WInISD. Beta mostly, because Pro seems a bit buggy still. At least it is on both my computers. Design is the most complicated part of a 6th order, because of the dip in the middle of the passband. But, it just takes plotting lots of different tuning frequencies and box volumes. Other that that, the peaks are outstanding and, chances are that anyone who knows what you have now would think you added woofers if you ditch two of them and build a 6th order. bbeljefe Posted July 12, 2013 Report Posted July 12, 2013 The one's I've built have been. And some others I've seen also. But then there are the ones that aren't designed well and they just plain suck. Note how the red graph peaks almost 8db @ 20 hz. And it gets stupid loud at 60hz, with nearly an 18db peak. But then, it falls -1db at 30. But... there is no -3db point anywhere in the desirable passband. So yeah, they can be real loud but if you look at the other two graphs, not being designed properly can make them sound like shit. But if you're mainly concerned with loud, look at the yellow graph. That one is tuned at 30 & 60 and its midband dip at ~45 is still a 4db gain. Where that one fails though is in low end extension. Anything below 25 hz will only be felt, which is kinda your problem now. Facebook: facebook.com/audioanarchyllc Instagram: audioanarchyllc Youtube: youtube.com/bbeljefe
brent379 Posted July 12, 2013 Author Report Posted July 12, 2013 What kind of cubic feet per chamber did you end up coming up with for your situation? I was playing with win isd a little bit and to get those kind of peaks my chambers were ridiculously huge lol the best I could get... The response looked completely opposite of yours... Had an f3 of 28hz and rose up to about a 3-4db gain at about 40 and stayed the same until it fell off at about 80. Does that even sound remotely correct for a 6th?? I think the qts of my 10s are higher tho and I've heard 6ths work best with a low qts
