Hey guys, i'm new to the forum but i'm hoping I can get some help! I have a single SA 12 in a custom ported 2 cube box tuned to 33 hz and for some reason anything around 30 and lower hz makes the sub sound like it's bottoming out and I can't play it. I've seen countless people play these notes no problem super clean but I just don't see what my problem is, i'm sending 800 rms at 2 ohms with gain set conservatively and even with SS on 35 hz I still get this noise, any ideas what it could be?? please help

mmost likely a poorlly designed/built box.

and the subsonic filter is for restricting the dangerous frequencies out that below the setting, so if your set for 35hz, and are trying to play 30hz. your just totally using it wrong.

is it a loud popping noise? or does it just sound different than regular bass? cause my friend has 1 sa12 on 1200 watts in a 2-2.25cbft box at 35 hz and at 30 and under the sub makes like a motor noise that doesn't sound like regular bass

yeah that's more of what it sounds like, but it's loud and the bass kind of stops. whatever it is it doesn't sound good lol

sounds like you are experiencing what my friends does also... idk why it does that but every time I point it out no one knows what im talking about lol bottoming out is REALLY loud, I have a 1200 watt sub on my dc3.5k cause the sub is fucked up anyways and when it bottoms out.. you know it

hmm, now i'm not too sure what to do cause I can't play a lot of songs since there are random low notes that make that sound so I just instantly change the song. idk if it's my box or what ...

I say find like a 25hz test tone, ssf at like 28hz and ease the volume up to what full tilt is on your system. Maybe even take a video and post it here, someone will be able to tell you if its bottoming out

Its the triple joint ring sundown uses hitting the motor, makes it almost impossible to bottom the coil out against the back plate IIRC.

If you look below the spider on a recone you can see a ring on there.

Tune lower, and set the subsonic correctly.

If you can't play low its all box...I had mine tuned to 33, played slightly below 30 just fine.
