Battery location

Just wanted to know if its better to have the second battery closer to the amp or can I have both batteries under the hood?

Reason is I now have 2 d3400 under the hood n voltage drops to like 12.5 not even at full tilt. (Vol 20 out of 30) so I never go pass 20 but feel like I can get louder. Everything set with the dd1. So should I move the one battery closer to the amp or just get a bigger battery in the back n keep the 2 in front.

Xs claims the d3400 can be use for a 3000 watt system as a secondary battery. Only have 1 run of positive n 1 run of negative from the front to the amp.

Never had to post anything since all my questions are usually answer just by reading other post but haven't found this question anywhere so I figure ill ask.

Any suggestions will be greatful and thanks in advance.

Amp is a DD m3a

Sub is a DD 9918 or 9917 not 100% sure

Box is 6 cubes to around 36hz

Wires are all knu including big 3. Ofc and all welded tight.

High output alt is a mechman 270.

Truck is an 02 acura mdx.

Well battery near amp is best setup IMO. I have 2 under hood batteries because there were two spots up there for batteries from the factory. But I ran 2 runs of 1/0 gauge OFC from the alt to each battery under hood then ran 2 runs of 1/0 gauge OFC to the rear of the vehicle, THEN I have a D3100 in the rear of the vehicle also.

Personally if I was you, although your setup seems definitely up to par, I would suggest at some point (if it's possible) to run an additional run of power wire to the rear if you ever plan on adding more watts to your setup. 1 is sufficient for what you got though.

Regardless of that though, I would add a battery to the rear. Without doing anything else simply add battery to rear. Because of the voltage drop is why. Not sure how your batteries are wired under the hood but power takes the path of least resistance so both under hood batteries are getting charged way before it has to travel through that LOOOONG run to the rear to power the amp directly.... I am surprised your voltage drops that much with that amp and your current power setup. I would have to assume by adding a batt to the rear that it will helps TONS in your voltage drop. Just my $.02

What do the batteries rest at? Maybe they need a good charging.

Thanks Karkov for the fast reply. Both batteries are wired right next to each other and only have one run of positive n negative from my alt to the batts. I guess I would have to get another one for the back. Hopefully that helps.

Team HT they rest at 12.5. There only 5 months old and were fully charge before install.
