Am I Killing My Alternator?

Recommended Posts

Ditch the cap and see if it still happens. You never know.

I'm confident in saying that won't make a difference

Second hand alt might be on it's way out as well, might have to just baby it for a while till you can get new replacement for it.

I was thinking the same, I will check what its pushing out tomorrow.

You should have no alternator problems with that small an amount of power, even on the factory electrical system.

Reading battery voltage with a meter isn't the correct way to check a battery, either. You have to put a load on the battery in order to check it.

Sounds to me like your battery is shorting when the alternator is sending a charge current to it. I would have someone with a battery tester do a load test on it. And.. make sure the battery posts & terminals are clean and that ALL ground connections are clean.
