Is the size of my box to large?

Recommended Posts

a cube will have a better chance to generate a standing wave within itself. if it could be deeper and not as wide, or vice versa, also if you were to 45* the internal corners, and round over any edges the air moves accross will help. Also as stated above, is it net or gross? but yeah, on second thought 4.5 is big for a 12".

recomended is 1.5.... I mean, a little bigger would be ok,

Lol kinda lost me there ^^^ But yes, we 45 degreed every corner inside of the box, and rounded all the edges.

ok good deal.

a box of 1.5cu/ft seem sooo small... Looks like I've got 3 options. Run a second 12inch sub, switch to a 15inch DC, or a 15inch DD 3500... I'll see what my paycheck brings.

Or build another box.

Youre getting ZERO cone control in that box, if you've even hooked up your system yet and played it. You are basically free airing your sub in that enclosure. That one 12" will likely not pressurize that airspace very well, if at all.

As mentioned, a perfect cube is BAD for enclosures as far as standing waves and funky responses

Im not the one you want to try to troll. Just a fyi for you.

"Is the size of my box too large?".....that's what she said haha....anyways what sub OP? anyways there is a huge difference in gross and net. Your net volume is the actual volume the subwoofer is receiving after all displacements have been accounted for, such as volume of the wood itself, extra baffles, subwoofer, bracing, 45's, speaker wire (jk) and the port.

My big ass two 12's box I made is 9 cubes gross but only comes out to 5 cubes net...big difference eh?

a 12" subwoofer typically needs 1.5-2.0 cubes but in some cases and depending on your goal, you may require less or more volume, but anyway you look at it 4.5 cubes net is a ton for a 12" and even on the large side for a 15" driver.
