Ryan_Kao
PLEASE HELP ME. WHAT AM I DOING WRONG?I got my meters out today and decided to clamp to see my RMS. I hook my positive and negative leads of the MULTIMETER to the positive and negative of the speakers outputs on my Soundstream DTR1.900D Rated for 900Watss RMS @1ohm. YES IM AT 1OHM. Then I hooked the CLAMPMETER to the positive wire of the speaker outputs. This is what I got... I was playing a 40hz test tone at my max listening volume, gains are set to not distort on the amp. The sub was at damn near full stroke (max excsursion) as loud as i would be burping. It hurt my ears to sit in the car to rev the engine. WHAT IS WRONG?!??! Wicks
1.). Clamping is not a reliable way to measure amplifier output. 2.). You're looking at one frequency, try a sweep. 3.). At resonance, the impedance of your sub rises greatly so it would naturally reduce amplifier output. Doesn't mean your sub outputs less, as you've stated. 4.). Check out Tony D's vids on clamping. 5.). Hard to tell on mobile. If you have multiple wires from your sub terminals, make sure all wires from the same polarity are through the clamp meter. Ryan_Kao
Huh, thanks for the responses guys! Box rises makes sense. The box is 2.5cubes at 32hz.
