Lonnie West Posted September 27, 2013 Report Posted September 27, 2013 Ok so I bought a used pair of 18" treo ssx 18" subs. they look great. I forgot to bring my dmm to check the coils. I pushed them up and down. Nice and smooth and no rubbing. Well when I get home and dmm them one coil on eadh sub is not getting a reading at all. it's 0.00 the opposite coil is reading 2 ohms. so Im guessing one coil on each sub is dead? and does that mean I need recone kits? or is their something else I can do? thanks for the help. 2001,2002,2003 USACI World Finalist. 3rd. place ss 301-600 2003 USACI World Record Holder SS 301-600 Out for 10yrs. Chris Hammer Posted September 27, 2013 Report Posted September 27, 2013 If there is now coil rub it could be a broken lead. Look at the triple joint and follow the leads from the terminals over the spider to the cone, its possible one could have broke. Its weird for it to read zero. If you dont find anything carefully remove the dustcap and examine the joint under it where the leads connect. Don't be too worried about cutting it up since you only option if you cant find the problem is doing a recone...and since you are running two you would have to recone both. I just read that I can run one coil on a dvc setup. so Im going to go on and build a box for them. and just run them paralleld to each other so a one ohm load on one ddm2b. that will get me by until I can afford the recone kits. 2001,2002,2003 USACI World Finalist. 3rd. place ss 301-600 2003 USACI World Record Holder SS 301-600 Out for 10yrs.
