Hertz don't it Posted October 15, 2013 Report Posted October 15, 2013 I have noticed most of you guys have x4 (or more) subs of the same size. Is this for pure spl reasons? I am plannin on building a wall section on a 2006 Nissan Frontier extra cab, and thinking going x2 15" ported x2 12" ported.. and thinking of going another x2 12" sealed or x2 10" sealed. I am looking for a wide range of hard hitting bass. My question is this: assuming the box and ports and working great, would there be much of a difference with going x2 15", 12", 10", or say just 4x 15"?
MrSkippyJ Posted October 15, 2013 Report Posted October 15, 2013 Lots more work for one. Is there a reason you think lots of different sized subs gives you a wider range of bass? Hertz don't it Posted October 15, 2013 Author Report Posted October 15, 2013 MrSkippyJ : My thoughts on different sized subs is for listening to a wide range of music.. techno stuff, death metal and some boomy drum n bass. I am concerned that if i just use x4 15's ported, that some of it will sound off or flat because the subs can not keep up. UnderratedDB : are your 18's able to hit fast stuff like metal and techno? If they can and do it well.. I might rethink my build ( haven't bought anything.. just in research stage. Thanks for the info guys.. its helpin!
HHR Ed Posted October 15, 2013 Report Posted October 15, 2013 By having a variety of different sized woofers, you run the risk of interference and cancellation. When you have multiple woofers of the same size, in enclosures tuned the same. They will work as one, becoming more efficient. This not only can make SPL higher, but can give a more pure, easily controlled low end response. Basically, cleaner bass. Bass frequencies are generally played 80hz - 20hz. And sometimes 60hz - 20hz. There is no reason that a properly designed enclosure could not achieve this with one sized woofer and would actually be more difficult to accomplish with various sized woofers. MrSkippyJ Posted October 15, 2013 Report Posted October 15, 2013 No reason a quality musical sub of any normal size in a well built and designed enclosure will have a problem with any music.
