new subs... no thiele specs... yet ..

Recommended Posts

Those look like the Punch Zs. I was never a fan of those particular subs.

A couple things:

Those subs are not going to impress like crazy. I doubt a custom box will really get that much output from them(better than prefab, but still)

Build a sealed box with a cube per sub, or do a ported with 1.5 cubes to each. You COULD make a larger box than 3 cubes for the 2 of them, but just in case the person that buys them decides to overpower, stay on the lower side for volume. It's not like there is going to be some HUGE response jump with an extra cube from those subs specifically.

The other thing:

Are you really ready to be building boxes for people yet? Your last box, although much better than previous work, wasn't perfect. That trim panel, stuff like that.

Do you plan on advertising your services on Craigslist? Be prepared is all I'm getting at. Please be prepared. I'm not trying to be negative or a jerk. I like you and you like to learn, which is a plus, so much love Sir from my side

Please take pics of this box build as I would really like to see the progress :)

So

I'm pretty sure these subs suck whale penis.... had I been aware of what they were I'd of not bought them...

as I continue to build Im buying tools to help with different aspects. whether it be a compas to draw out my circles better... or a new straight cut bit for the torched one I had in my router... and I'm also learning the best ways to get clean cuts... managing different parts of the build process... but like was said you can't perfect it till you put the time in to perfect things. thus why I'm wanting to build for these crappy subs... this box will have my first kerfed port. also my first box that I'm going wood port (my brain is fried I forget the proper term) I have plans drawn up already ill be posting them shortly. so with every box I'm building its something new... or something perfected... or a little of both... but I learn best by doing... and if I can at least break even in the process no foul is done. at least in my book if they makes any sense.

also got to say thank you... you've really helped me a lot. learning things and your support means a lot to your boy over here... thanks good sir :)

I agree with sierra and yourself lol cl people will bash you if you do something wrong . Just remember cl people are the ones breaking records with shity 12s and boss amps. You should start out by building some different boxes first for your own systems and once you think you got it right then promote yourself. nothing says I'm doing it right like showing them the box in action .

I agree people have little appreciation for these things... I've yet to get a video of that 6th but its still coming... probably today so I'll be putting that up on my log and with the cl listing. that's a good point thanks for that one.

like I said in the last post to sierra. I can't seem to justify build after build for one set of subs... so if I can build for different subs and break even in it then at least I'll have the experience. and that's what going to help me the most when I start going hard at it with the business side... and be able to put out a product that is worthy of the 225 plus dollar per box price tag... and also I can add these to fatten up my portfolio. as far as yup here's build I've done... all in a book... yup I've made all these different styles of boxes... oh which one do I prefer? this type... its what I run... but what do you want? well here this style of box will give you that and then some... so it would help with the consoling perspective clients... so I'm broadening horizons while gaining experience with the basics... Ive always had a thing for car audio but always thought it was expensive. .. still do but now it's fun and expensive lmno. and a chance to do what I enjoy... so its on baby... regardless of Craig's list tards bahaha. :D I'm one too though I buy stuff on there quite often lolz

the plans I've got now... I have account ed for the loss of the cubic inches from the kerfing and .2 cf for the subs a piece. its at 3 cubes with nine inches of 1x15 inch slot port... for 30 ish hz tuning. should be a fun lil build :D

also idk who all knows it on here but I'm also a bassist... I play bass guitar and deal with that crowd of people too. so that's another corner of business that I'd love to get into... building cabinets for bass amps and guitar amps alike.. and from the research I've done there's very little difference between your basic sub box... and a bass amp cabinet... a nice 8x10 cabinet tuned to 29 hertz will give perfect response for a standard tuned 5 string bass... just a little knowledge for ya :D

I'm inclined to agree with Clean. I would not build a box on "spec" for sale on Craigslist. I would (and did) build boxes for friends, family, et al until I got to the point that I had the right tools and enough experience to speak intelligently about the entire process of building and designing enclosures. And that's not to say that you aren't speaking intelligently, because you're learning a lot in a short time. But it is to say that experience is the key to doing good work.

Kerfing a slot port in a box for two cheap subs that would sound better in sealed enclosures isn't gonna pay you any dividends... especially if you sell it on CL. Always find out the TS numbers of the drivers before cabinet design. If those subs have a low EBP (and I'd bet a hunnert that they're lower than 50), they will need a giant ported box to sound decent.... not good mind you, just decent... at best.

And if you're hell bent to get some experience and sell those subs on CL, here's a suggestion. Build a couple of identical 4th orders with one sub in each. They will be stupid peaky in the forties, which is where the prefab 4ths CL people rave about are tuned, so they'll sound loud as fuck to a CL buyer and, you can get a hunnert a piece for them. And if you must, kerf those ports.

But when you kerf, get ready for some serious man hours in getting the inside (and outside) of the kerf smooth because it's not an easy process, especially on a first go. You'll also need resin and body filler if you plan to do it right and frankly, that's a lot of wasted money and time for a CL sale if you ask me.

I think your efforts in kerfing would be much better served by building a kerfed box for a friend or family member who will show it off and tell others who did it... even if you have to build it for free. It's advertising, after all, and you know a CL buyer is just gonna wind up selling the box for half what he paid for it in less than two weeks because his tires are almost shot and he's not thinking that far ahead in life. ;-)

I'm considering helping a homie out... see if he can at least compensate me for the 75 bucks I have in the subs. I just got off the horn with him... I'm just slightly shy on wood too grr... hmm... well let me see what's crackin with this one quick
